Sadly most of the Ultima HM wipes I had to put up with where because that last phase Tethered Spheres. I went through so many wipes because players could never move properly for them. Once I finally went in there with a reliable player the tank, myself and that another player did that last phase on our own and it was a sure kill afterwards but it did take a couple attempts to get used to the Tethered Spheres we were tackling due to the allotted time you are given to tackle those last spheres.

Well to be honest the only gear dependent mechanic is a tank being able to soak up defracted laser with out a buff up which you shouldn't normally just like mountain busters in titan because it is in between a double tap of his auto attack and then adding a stack. The 10 min marker really sets the need for damage dealers to be standing not so much the dps number high. The lasers eat up the most time as you wouldn't be able to ignore them if you wanted to (To be honest I do not know if you really need to kill all the lasers, and what happens if you don't) because they fire to fast for heals to go off in normal succession which is why defracted laser is a well designed threat as a burst dmg weaved into the basic enemy rotation with no charge up. Good luck to those still on it hope you get your rings...only brd stuff ever drops when i run it.

is there a new mode of Ultima? I really don't see whats hard with ultima. I tanked it as warrior (HM of course) with mytho body and hand vermillion legs and boots and axe of crags and had no problems.

Ultima is probably one of the easiest fights in the entire game, once you figure out the rather easy skill circle it uses. The heardest part is the ifrit solo part, mostzly because people don't know how to dodge eruptions

except that trolls that dont know the fight, come in and expect to get carried...and constantly die on the first mechanics....cause ppl dont read PF descriptions.

except all the other bosses in the game, before Ultima...they are easier.
and every fight is easy, when you know the mechanics.
so you could say that Avatar is probably one of the easiest bosses in the game; the only thing you need to worry about is stepping on towers, stepping on mines, avoiding circles, avoid taking damage if you got field (you should avoid taking damage anyway, mostly) have someone tank the tank, during brainjack. easy fight, yet most ppl cant kill it, much less get there.

Uh... how is the last phase hard?

Pop Tank LB2/3, eat every single bomb without any care of the damage taken.

    You won.

It depends how you view the ilvl requirement. Is it minimum level that the content can be cleared (by skilled / experienced players) at or a recommended level for the average / first time player?

Consider that some people may want to take on the fight with a second, third, or eighth alt class and may have enough prior experience to easily handle the content at the base ilvl. Also, while rare, some people enjoy low ilvl runs (see http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...Prepare-to-Die).

I think a good solution would be to increase the ilvl requirement for duty finder (for the ultima fight in particular), but reduce or remove the ilvl requirement for a preformed party (unless using party finder where the party leader can indicate the ilvl requirement). This way people can have a bash at content with a low gear level, but won't hold back duty finder parties (based on low ilvl).

Additionally, For pre-formed groups I'd love to see an option to choose which level to sync down to. I find the level sync is too generous and actually makes the content very boring / pointless to re-run. End game content (as far as i'm aware) doesn't even have level sync, so if you're late to the end game you simply get carried by an over geared group. I'd like to help new players in my ls / fc through content without carrying them completely, as that's not fun for me or the low level player.

Had very similar experiences in my last attemps. BTW - I saw you a few times while wondering around Gridania As I'm still to yet beat this if you'd like to team up some time please give me a shout in game.

I think minimum ilv is based around NOT getting one-shot.
For TitanX, minimum lv is 67-68. i cleared it with 73 blm, and that was kinda borderline. I had to use food as not to die from stomps.
So if you want a pt to clear it with ilv 68, everyone needs to be reeaally good. You'd need well-timed medica-II, and succors just so you wouldn't outright wipe from stomps.
I'm sure a group of elite ppl could clear it in less though.
I'm quite sure you can clear Ultima with minimum lv, also. But yah, need a really good group for it.

See the ilevel requirement in DF for skilled players. The more unskilled someone is, the more extra ilevel he need.
Clearing content with the Df ilevel could be a good achievement ^^
