I need a honest opinion about the Atma drop rate......

I took this on casually. For me, as it couldn't hurt, I did the theorized, unRNG-the-RNG-because-it-worked-for-some people way, and only farmed the areas that coincided with the JP clock method approach, because, well, some say it worked wonders for them. It's still RNG. And it is still luck.

But I refused to farm for Atmas more than 2 hours at any given time, unless I got an Atma in those two hours, and even then, only on weekends (as I only log in for an hour or so at night). Farming for Atmas for hours and hours on end - I ain't got time for dat!

All joking aside, I probably spent about 30 hours to get all of mine, plus two duplicates. Do I think the drop rate is abysmal? Compared to the minion Opo thing, no (I have yet to see this drop in any runs I have done, and do at least 15 - 20 a week since release). Compared to raptor skin, yes. Compared to the DF chance of clearing Titan Ex with no preset party? No.

I personally think you are wasting your time doing more than 4 hours a day, unless you are getting an Atma every four hours. And I personally think you shouldn't stay in a region more than an hour, two at most. Even though I mentioned I wouldn't stay longer than 2 hours in a region, to be honest, it was probably no longer than 45 minutes, an hour at most. And there were DF dungeon runs in between, and I used either my PLD, WHM or BLM while running those FATEs. And got Atma drops using all 3.

BUT I outright refused to focus on it. For those that did and were successful, congrats!!! But for me, it was just in between everything else for the most part. (And to show you pure RNG power - an LS bud of mine farmed a region for 5 hours before I came in to try for one. I got my first one in 3 FATEs, and continued to help him, and got a duplicate 2 FATEs later. He still didn't get one for the rest of the day, while I went some where else and got one. Then not another for the rest of the week)

you know I put off atma grinding because of threads like this on the forums. then I decided to actually put work into the atma farm and I've gotten 11 atma in 3 weeks playing about 2 hours a day. some fool decides he's going to come back to the game to show that he was "right" about atma? his achievements aren't public for a reason.

On Atmas:
I decided to start it before my longer break (which was almost right after the patch) , after 12 hours (not in one sitting, and several fates missed because of real life) I got my first drop. I was as much happy as annoyed. Not that it took that long, I farmed quite longer (sometimes 12 hours in one sitting just getting up for bathroom) in FFXI. Just when you did ANYTHING in FFXI for 12 hours, I did not feel THAT much like a bore (and it still was). Killing 300 specific mobs at a specific weather, and those weather things sometimes did not pop for a looong time. But not needing to look on the map to see where the next FATE spawned, just waiting till the weather pops and than kill everything in sight makes all the difference. That and that this kind of grinding did not force you to Level sync down to ridiculous low levels, some jobs have strong enough AOE or instant cast nukes to make getting a fate count for other classes hard.

Unattach Atma from Fate, keep a low droprate, but lets say specific mobs that are at least a BIT of a challenge, and many people wouldn't look that disgusted at the Atma grind

Every single one of you posts today has been a complaint about atma. It's not going to change. You quit over it, and then you came back only to complain about the thing you complained and quit over. It's not going to change any time soon because people have just sucked it up and put the time in or decided they don't need it.

East Shroud atma took me 3 days of 8 hour farm sessions to finally get it. Southern Thanalan 4 days 10 hours. Did it suck? Yup. Did I get it done? Yup.

If it's such a big deal why don't you just get a levi weapon and farm for mirrors or get a coil weapon, obviously there is going to be a grind behind every relic upgrade going forward, if you don't have the heart for the atma part you're going to be even less enthused with the animus and then novus grinds.

For the past 2 weeks I came back to FF14 with the intention of actually proving a point in regards to how again the Atma drops are way incredibly low for what they should be and here is my prove:

05/30/14-Returned to FF14 for the sole purpose of grinding Atmas from fates and consistantly grinded for 10 hours a day on my own time off from work from 05/30/14 to 06/14/14. Within the first 6 days I earned the achievement Destiny's Child (3000 Fates) and Let the Bodies Hit the Floor (100000 mobs killed) on the 06/07/14. As of Friday, 06/14/14, I have currently have only 2 Atmas, Atma from Outer Noscea and Central Shroud with my Summoner full Ilvl 90 gear and the proper weapon equipped the entire time.

How many FATEs have you did in the 10 hours?
How many FATEs have you did in total before your return (because the achievement)?

Do you have the achievement title for killing all the mobs? Because mine is missing

This thread had an all too familiar ring to it and then I remembered, hey this is the guy who was complaining about quitting over atma, yet still had an active sub which means he either quit playing and kept paying or he was just looking for sympathy.

Put in the time to get the item, if you don't want to there are alternatives, no one is forcing you.

And in the end, this guy is just a sad drop of water in an ocean of no one cares.

It takes skills. OP obviously lacks the skills to get ATMAS quickly.

Are you optimizing your fate routes? The more fates you do, the better the chances of a drop. I advice you rush from one fate to the next.

My honest opinion is that RNG is RNG and she's a cruel mistress, though indifferent as to who the cruelty should be rained on. I've been dealing with it for years (willingly of course) so it's not a big deal to me. Others who haven't had much luck or haven't played any other MMOs would feel differently. All you can do is keep trying. That said I'm not on the good side of RNG very often.
