    International Server?

ok i come from FFXI and never had problems with japanese people, but in FFXIV it seems more dificult to do anything with them. What is the reason to have international servers if I can only play with Europeans or Americans?

And i know some poeple will say: ohh one day i played with them and i have no problem.. ok i did it on FFXI too but 1 day is not enough to be polite. Seriously i feel discriminated by not being able to speak Japanese.

What to do? allow it and play a game with 2 "factions" where u join oriental or not oriental people?

pretty sure Mysidia is the unofficial JP server, with that said every JP player I have ran into (mostly on behests and for crafting) have all been polite. We even have a few in our shell that are bi-lingual that help us non-bilingual folks with translations.

Well I'm sure not all JP players wish to be segregated, but just like some of us I'm sure some JP players are douches.

Ahh this topic yet again, time for heaps of thinly veiled racism I guess...

I have no problem playing with Japanese people. Doing Darkhold sounds like it would be difficult with anyone you did not share a language with though, fluently. That is how it was in XI too though.

As for xp'ing I really don't see it as a barrier, it would have been nice if they had added the guildleves/quests into the auto-translate prior to the guildleve changes, and there is still more they should add to that system however this game is certainly a huge step up from XI in terms of playing with Japanese players.

For one you can actually copy text from the game, and post text into the game which makes communicating in Japanese characters so much easier than typing it through IME for those who aren't fluent. I can understand (I guess, I mean I can't really it just seems lazy to me) if you don't want to go through all that effort but you certainly can't blame Japanese players.

translators like http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english/ are very useful for reading Japanese characters and there are many resources available online for game terms.

Yes some Japanese players are xenophobic, however I have certainly seen it much more from the American side. Especially when the American view of someone "wanting to have their own world" is not speaking your language. Playing with people who speak another language and only share a passing knowledge of your language (which is more than can be said of most Americans/Europeans and their knowledge of Japanese) is not the easiest thing in the world, but it is certainly doable with a little effort and most importantly respect for others on your part.

sure, but the problem is that NOW we have a dungeon with a search system with autojoin, today i joined 2 recruits and got kicked after <Hello!> <I'm Sorry> <i don't speak any japanese> ok?

i didnt asked them to speak english (universal language, not my language) but at least to play with us, try use autotranslate, or not, if they dont want to talk with me, i can talk with english people in party (if exists). BUT guy, u post up me to use a japanese translate for them, u are wrong, as i said, english is not my native language, so i have to use mine, english and translate to them in japanese? cant them be less LAZY and use it to translate to english? Seriously...

First of all I don't know how you think you are going to be develop strategies and work through a brand new dungeon with people you don't share a common language with. I think that is just an absurd thing to expect from them.

Secondly and I'm not trying to be dismissive here, but saying <I'm Sorry> <I don't speak any Japanese> ok? Is in fact putting all of the work on them. If you make an attempt to show a willingness to do some translation on your end, to make up for the areas the auto-translator is still lacking, then you will find more often than not they will do the same. It is very hard to communicate solely through the auto translate function, the auto translate function is still very useful, but you still need to make a concerted effort outside of it to communicate properly.

If you want to be all angry about it that is your problem man. If you actually want to play with Japanese players all it takes is a bit of effort and they will reciprocate in kind. You should be glad we have an auto-translator, and copy+paste function at all most games lack even that. I was merely trying to show that it is not an unwillingness to playing with foreigners stopping most Japanese players from grouping with you, merely a language barrier that with work you can both overcome. In this nothing has changed from XI, and I personally think it has improved a great deal both in terms of my ability to communicate with them and their acceptance of non-Japanese players.

We could all learn a little something from Enemy Mine, just the language part not the alien species/impregnation/galactic war part.
