Let's make this viral- Improving our community

    Fellow players. I am sorry.

I have mistreated you. I have been impatient with your incompetence , though I myself have accomplished little of note. Left dungeons because I didn't feel like running them or if we wiped once, even if people were new. I've sworn at you, called you names, and generally been a mean spirited person. And I apologize. I will try my hardest to prevent this from ever happening again. I won't improve overnight. But I'll be putting a strong effort into creating a more inviting community.

Because other people see the path this game is treading and want it to change as well. But they chose a vastly better way of dealing with it then assimilating into the toxic culture that they loathe so much in the first place.

Nah. We'd rather complain about relic grinds and people suck at extreme primals instead.

My experience in Ultros has been mostly pleasant and haven't come across the kind of poor community that you speak of. Sure there are elitists, dungeons quitters etc but I only run into a-holes once in a blue moon. This is of course anecdotal and maybe another fellow Ultros resident will speak of rampant a-holes but I'm pretty happy with the people who share my server.

Once the developers start to support the game having any sense of community people will flourish. Until said time, the developers have actively went against community and seem very lax on any additions to the game that would be usefull. Christ we are still waiting to be able to go into crystal tower with an alliance of company mates. Weekly lockouts on content work against community interaction as well.

The players will start to care when the developers do.

I said my peice in 1.0 when the game actually supported communities and didn't have cross server grouping (A utterly massive blow to having a good comunity in my opinion) The games downfall of community interaction died when they made the game not require interaction.

I like the positive stories on that link. Giving new players gil is an awesome and nice thing to do. I'm gonna start doing that.

I know it's just a video game but IMO it's more important than that. I'm a firm believer in "all work and no play makes X person a dull person." On top of that, I got my girlfriend into this game and she fell in love with the lore and cute minions and the idea of participating in a story. Since we're in a long distance relationship, this is how we pass our time together. Ultimately, this is where people come to relax. And there are a lot of playing together, so why not just be nice to each other? This is our virtual home, our hang out spot. We deserve to treat each other like family I help anyone at any time just because. Usually it ends up benefitting me too, so there's usually something in it for you even if you think there's not.

I know the vocal player base in these forums want complexity but it comes at a cost. That cost is difficulty empowering restrictions through seriousness. It isn't aiding fun, enjoyment, and creativity.

People will argue the subjectivity around fun and enjoyment and we can go over this argument over and over again. Yet the point that is trying to be made is enjoyment in simplicity. Currently long term dedicated end game content comes at the expense of the rest of the player base. It's a big percentage of the player base that isn't only neglected but also looked down on by and even smaller yet more vocal demograph that is probably able to compete or simply decides to defend that difficulty. Yet it doesn't help when they make the atmosphere so negative by the way they approach it.

FFXIV ARR has a lot of potential and it shows with content that comes every major patch such as main scenarios, beast tribe dailies, hildebrand, and so on yet it takes so long before we see more of it.
Yet the decision, directions, and overall approach atop of the community image doesn't help.

So yes as a group we can make it better but getting the group to agree to it will be a task. Since I recall the community image being like this since FFXI.

All servers are gonna have different experiences because they house their own diverse community of individuals. It's kind of like traveling between cities where you can find charitable people or ending up in that bad neighborhood where you gotta watch every corner and every shadow like your life depended on it.

Yet for the most part people seclude themselves to friends, family, or good players because dealing with other players becomes a hassle depending on the circumstance. Regardless it's not a myth you should dismiss because it doesn't happen to you as often as you would like to warrant it a fact.

I try to offer my help randomly on Hyperion and always have. I don't do it as often anymore as in 1.0 (the point friends were angry with me because I just never spent any time with them...), but whenever I see someone do something nice, it really puts me in the mood to continue to contribute. I know this was small, but one of the memories that stuck out in my mind for ARR was recent, when I was hunting golems for my book. A PLD was also taking some down and, I first thought I wasn't going to have a chance at some of them making my killing time a bit longer. However, to my surprise, that person was halfway through the golem and turned right around to avoid autoattacking which stupefied me at first but I took the chance. Before I could really give my thanks the person ran off, but I was grateful for that. Ever since, whenever I see someone nearby that looks to need the same mobs as me, I start it off to get my credit and turn around so the person hunting near me would also get credit.
