Suggestion: Housing Progression to own Small House

FC Rooms are coming up and I will be able to afford it. Seriously, it's not what I want though. I have been holding onto my gil for so long for housing that I am not really looking forward to spending it on the housing system. Ergo, I probably won't be using the FC rooms.

We've all heard the rumors that a Small House will not be cheap. (Some estimates of at least 800k, probably crazy more on Legacy worlds.) Why limit accessibility to an interesting system by requiring wealth?

Whenever personal housing is implemented, there should be a simple quest to own a Small Plot of land. Thereafter, a challenging questline should be an option to owning a Small House.

Small Land deed quest (easy) --> Small House quest (challenge with at least moderate difficulty)

In this way, people who don't want to spend crazy gil on a Small House can spend time rather than money to get the basic smallest house. I'm not asking to be handed a small house. I'm asking for an alternative method to basic ownership of a house.

Dude, I'm with you all the way on this one.

But, be prepared, this thread will not end well.

Everyone thought paid retainers and fantasia would be the end of it.

Better yet, just open up the existing FC housing system for personal purchase. At 2.5M for a small house, they are easily within reach of a great many individuals (including me). I really don't understand why SE feels that communal living is the only option and I'm tired of waiting for personal housing.

So you are willing to spend time getting a house, but not time getting money to buy a house?
Why does everyone want an alternative to what they put in the game? I want to run dungeons, but I don't want to actually run the dungeon, so how about I que up, wait, then dungeon is ready instead of actually running the dungeon, I watch some tv instead, and then I get all the gil/items/tomestones that the dungeon offers. I'm not asking for the stuff to be handed to me, I'm simply asking for an alternative method of running dungeons without actually running dungeons.

Honestly, they could just slap a pricetag for a certain amount of Soldiery or whatever those top level tokens are these days. Loads better than watching TV for dungeon items. Would require gameplay, no TV watching, super happy fun time yes?

I dont see what the big deal is. You have plenty of alternatives. Why do you want an actual house over an FC room or inn room? Do you just want a place to go be alone and not have people doing the manderville around you? Inn room.

Want a place to hang out but dont care about whether you can decorate or not? There's the FC house, which most likely your FC leader has paid for most or all of it for many people to enjoy and make use of.

Want something a bit more personal that you are able to customise yourself than an FC house? You get your FC room for a small amount.

Want your own plot of land entirely? You'll get it, but you have to pay more.

If FC's had to pay a few mil for a small plot of land and the housing system was originally touted as 'needing several lvl 50's life savings' and something that was a long term goal to work towards, why would you ever think you'd get the chance of having a plot of land for free? I'm not saying your idea is bad, I would probably prefer a questline too, but we already know that the housing in this game is meant to be something for people who put a lot of work into getting gil AND that they have issues with server space when it comes to housing, there's no chance of the gil requirements being removed.

Then you have the issue of people wanting a bigger house. Personally I want a mansion, so I understand my time and money requirements will be higher than someone who just wants a house. With quests being involved, I don't think the quests will require more time, but more skill. My worry with this system is that people would get limited land given to them because of their combat skill. And this game has enough content for people who showcase combat skill- I think the housing system is a fair reward for people who have strong dedication and money-making abilities compared to combat/mechanic skills.
