^This. Had a very similar idea about Time Mage.
The only difference in my idea was that TiM was alot of supports, no attacking power whatsoever. a 'party animal' only that could do nothing without a party.
I will not here you out... Frankly, because I have no idea what that means... Hearing you out is another matter. Alchemist is a disciple of the hand, and as such, will not be a battle class. Chemist could be a fun job, but i agree that one's 'potions' will need to be independent from inventory. It wouldn't make much sense or be a very practical implementation otherwise. Maybe tp based heals? What of pros/cons? Balancing?
Personally, I can't really see how this would work.

They could make it like FFX-2's alchemist. She uses potions "tucked away" for basic healing.
|The Alchemist idea would work well, just have it so they don't consume the item as a trait.
For more specific skills e.g dps etc use consume grenade ash, shard, etc.
The time healer would work, by disguising general healing skills as reverse, warp, and you can have the DPS skills as demi or other gravity inspired skills.
This is what I was thinking. Alchemists have been known to have the "Stock" ability, which allows them to use several types of potions without consuming them.
If Time Mage became a healer branching off from the Thaumaturge line, I'm curious how it would utilize the Astral Fire, and Umbral Ice system. I suppose it could use the same principle, where heals would become much more potent with fire but cost way more MP. This means they would have to be using attack spells to set up heals/regenerate mp, which could be interesting.
Like you said they could make cures more powerful with more stacks of fire. Or they could make Fire make Regens AoE and single target cures stronger and then Ice would reverse that so Ice would be single target regens and AoE cures. If Time Mage became a healer branching off from the Thaumaturge line, I'm curious how it would utilize the Astral Fire, and Umbral Ice system. Because there is a limit to the chars on this forum.
But I doubt they would be able to add a healer job to any current class that isn't already a healer for the simple fact that they wouldn't be able to do low level roulette as a healer pre-30. If you look at the current classes that lead to healers both are capable of healing (without cross class skills) before 30. THM can't heal so if they made Time Mage a healer it wouldn't be able to cure unless they made the actual fire spells cure when cast on PCs.
Even though Arcanists are capable of healing, they can't roulette as a healer either. They are forced to queue as a DPS until they unlock SCH at 30. And since Time mage would require leveling CNJ, it would have the cross class skills that it needs.Because there is a limit to the chars on this forum.
