    Randomly Built Dungeons

    Hi all,

Not everyone but I'm guessing most of us enjoy new dungeons when we enter them for the first few times and get bored of them after a couple dozen times. I don't know about you but I enjoy the discovery aspect of it all and it can become a bit stale doing the same thing over and over.

Wouldn't it be refreshing to have a endgame dungeons where we have randomly generated floors and possibly objectives to meet on each floor?

Via Infinito (FFX-2) and Nyzul Isle (FFXI) come to mind. A massive labyrinth where you ascend/descend floors that become progressively more powerful. I'm not thinking about Binding Coil type content here, as the dungeon/boss layouts are built the same each time you enter there.

A place where the objective is more subtle than "beat the boss", and is more like "find and activate the exit" sort of like a puzzle.

I'm interested to at least see what our community thinks is best of future dungeon design. It just seems to me that content becomes burnt out faster when you're not engaging with the "How do I get past this next pit" problem solving type content.

I would definitely like to see this sort of dungeon. I think Nyzul was done pretty well, and would like to see at least a version of it here. It allows for more variety, and people will constantly have to adapt depending on what they get per floor, not like now where its just a repetition of the same thing over and over, with the only variety being who you get in the DF.

Yes exactly, this is the style of content that doesn't become boring nearly as fast in my opinion. It engages your brain each time you enter to solve the puzzle of the current floor while fighting for your life.

The trick is to balance the content so that some floors will be more difficult but they are not too similar so that there's little variance. In fact with jumping in this game, any mazes that are generated might even be 3D. Think how sweet that would be.

I noticed someone was complaining today at how players sometimes quit from being bored of the same dungeon multiple times. Perhaps this idea could help prevent that and keep subs up?

While I would love this idea, someone did ask the developers about adding "random elements" to existing boss battles and they were against the idea. I really don't think they would be onboard with the same premise in a larger scope.

Yes I remember Yoshi / Community Team discussed that. However the context of their answer regarding RNG elements was about getting rid of boss rotations. They argued that if Titan Extreme's next ability was completely random then groups would wipe (regardless of any skill) if Titan decides to keep using his strongest moves (e.g. multiple mountain busters in a row).

This idea is more about the dungeon layouts and adding some maze-like features to engage some problem solving rather than whether bosses/mobs follow a rotation for their attacks.

Ah, okay! I didn't realize they were only worried about one specfic example (Titan EX + multiple Mountain Busters).
