Well as i see it this ilvl sync in frontlines is o either:
1. A stepping stone to removing pvp gear importance in pvp
2. A temporary measure to address the fact that most of the game's population doesn't have PvP gear that will likely be eased overtime as more people get geared up in PvP
I find the second one to be far more likely.
As for the i90 pve gear also being meldable and having 4 stats, unless you want to meld accuracy for PvP i fail to see what advantage you'd get from it, this doesn't really deserve a discussion though since we lack any hard info on it.

And yes i do agree that they should've come forth with this sooner and given more details to avoid all this somewhat fearful speculation.
