I was wondering why some people, even though you're the same level as them, may gain more experience than you or vice versa.

It can be a number of reasons. They may be eating food, they may have resting bonus active (a bonus built up when you idle/logout in sanctuary areas, Inn Room etc.). If it's in a dungeon they may actually be synced (look for the little yellow icon by their name) which means they will get slightly adjusted experience.
It depends on a number of things. Do they have a level 50 already? There's an added exp bonus to speed up leveling. Do they have the helm of light (for lv1-10)? Food for 3% buff? Grouped vs solo? Rested exp? Chocobo companion out? Etc.
There is also an exp bonus to those that already have a lv 50 class/job
I know it's not the food because neither of us ate an. Neither of us has a resting bonus, either. I'm not sure what else it would be. Thank you very much for the answer though, more enlightening than the "Idk" I got from my FC members lol.
Also, no, neither of us has a level 50 or uses a Chocobo companion to fight. Also no helm.
If you have any bonus whatsoever it shows up as a % alongside the experience points. Do you show different percentages? Also you don't need a level 50 class. Any class below your highest level class will get a bonus based on the difference in levels between the two classes.
Oh! Okay, the level difference thing is what it is. That makes sense now, thank you very much.
