This is why I liked FFXI because whether you liked it or not, some new jobs added completely different gameplay within a confined system, i.e Dancer being a TP based healer? That was new - Blue Mage? Brand new style of Job Setup, Puppetmaster? Brand new pet class style, Geomancer? New support style where placement of your buffs and debuffs were crucial.
Then comes that awkward moment when you realize:
Arcanist was promised along side Musketeer as one of the new classes available in an update. Then comes that other awkward moment when you realize they threw in not only Arcanist but had time to design Arcanist AND Summoner AND Scholar.
So...uhm.....

You actually don't know what goes on behind SE offices. They could have done any number of things including:This is why I liked FFXI because whether you liked it or not, some new jobs added completely different gameplay within a confined system, i.e Dancer being a TP based healer? 1) Threw out current MSK ideas as of 2.0.
2) Not started MSK/job at all.
3) Planned on waiting until expansion or 2.4.
4) Had X number of updates they wanted to put in before MSK.
5) Decided on putting in a pet class and a stealth class before MSK.
6) Threw out current MSK ideas as of 2.1~2.2.
There are no awkward moments here, only overly hopeful people. Musketeer will come soon. Jobs are not easy to add into an MMO; it's not something that can simply be done overnight or even in a couple of months. From there, you have no idea what they want to prioritize first in this MMO over a gun wielding class.
Remain patient.
Or have fun "RIOTing" like dorks until the expansion rolls around. I know most of you will pick the latter and will glaze over my words. You guys will be miserable until Fan Fest, I assure you.

You do realize they told us exactly what was going on...right? As in, if you actually keep up with interviews you would know? The only thing they never told us was why they were changing Musketeer and exactly what it is besides using magic.
Yet your post was largely speaking as if you knew what they were. It's very rare for a dev team to constantly throw ideas out like that or nothing would get done, especially if they don't have an open ended scheduled (they do not as yoshi constantly tells us how down to the wire every update comes.)you have no idea what they want to prioritize first

Dark Knight!!!!
It's pretty cute that you guys think RIOTing will or has effected SE's development cycle for this or anything else.
Musketeer will come when it comes, which is now more than likely with the expansion. And you probably won't get any major information until Fan Fest, not even to speak of Gamescom or Tokyo Game Show, which will be mainly for Ninja/Rogue info as well as Gold Saucer.
What's promised you isn't really "promised," sorry. They work based on their development schedule, not based on when the people want to see something added to the game. The good thing about Yoshi-P is the fact that he's about pleasing the gamers, but even he must work with his devs in a development cycle, on of which works to produce the most balanced game considering resources, research, planning, scheduling, and the current metagame, all other jobs included. But you want to say, "I've been waiting for 4 years!" Yeah, and? Game still goes by a development cycle, and what they feel needs to be in the game at the current time.
I guess it is fun however to post semi-annoying JP emotes.

I don't know if I can agree with this statement 100%. There have been tons of things added and changed in the game because players asked for it. I mean they did multiple player polls to shape the game according to what the players would like to see, and followed though with a majority of it. Even when it came to adding new classes the most asked for were in order of popularity:
#1: One that controls and fights alongside a pet or avatar.(ex. Summoner, Puppetmaster, etc.)
#2: An original class unlike any of those described above.(ex. Musketeer, Arithmetician, etc.)
#3: An assassin-type class that uses lethal and stealthy attacks. (ex. Ninja, Thief, etc.)
The rest I can agree with to some point, there is a development cycle etc. But they have definitely added and/or changed things within the game to make the players happy because they asked/demanded it.

SE added the Coil (savage) specifically because the players asked for it.
They added arcanist in 2.0 following a poll asking which class people wanted to see coming first
They have removed morale from Frontlines (and the new den) because PvE players never entered PvP due to being ravaged by R30/40 people in full PvP sets.

That was exactly what I was trying to say, and why I couldn't agree with the others comment. There has been plenty SE has but in due to player demand. <3

Of course. And even those things that are added or changed are worked into their cycles. When there's a simple fix or good idea, usually QoL, they work it in immediately (next patch) if it's not a complicated task or messes with server side latency. Bigger ideas or complicated tasks, get worked into a subsequent or future patch (they always inform us before hand that we will see it in the future). Never will you see players begging for a new job suddenly push the devs into a speedier development of said job.I don't know if I can agree with this statement 100%. #1 There was a post a very long time ago (before FFXIV: ARR) with Yoshi-P stating that he wanted a magical pet class added to as well as a physical pet class. Thus ARC/SMN/SCH came to be.
#2 This post has also come from Yoshi-P in the form of him wanting to see Red Mage, Blue Mage, Musketeer, and any manner of hybrid job classes added to the game eventually. This is now being discussed as they've realized most of these ideas cannot be fully utilized unless they change the current job system (or deviate from it) so that it's not too reliant on class abilities.
#3 The idea for Ninja had also been around as long as #2. He's also always wanted a stealthy class in the game.
He basically said in an interview a long time ago that "I want what you guys want." I'm not denying this statement wasn't said at all. However, when these classes/jobs we want are added, it will be within their development cycle, not because we are incessantly begging for it on the official forums. He does look at our ideas, and takes into consideration what we want to see. However, there's a process to adding jobs as well, one of which we don't know the full details.
The man has made it known he's a huge MMO nerd. I think he will do right by the FFXIV community and not let us down with Musketeer. It's all a matter of patience.
