    mnk and the dancing tank

Ok not sure if this has been covered before so sorry if it has.

I haven't played mnk much since v1 but I have been tinkering with it lately and also leveling it on a new char. But since it is so position dependent I was wondering how everyone handles dancing tanks. I never noticed how often tanks move around til playing mnk and trying to get positioning. Some tanks just spin circles around mobs or constantly move them around when they are in large groups. Is this normal or is it just troll or bad tanks and how do you deal with it to maximize your dps?

you just deal it really. if it's a normal tank that you group with, explain the issue to see if there is something he can do to lessen his movement. if it's from the duty finder, don't even bother saying anything. do the best you can to try and get your bonuses.

yeah same thing being a dragoon; "PLZ STAND STILL TANKS" lol idk how their job works but i feel ya; if its with your static you probably get used to their moves but yeah in the DF you're just there to get your run in...

As a former dancing tank, I've put my tapping shoes behind me as best as possible, barring mob positioning (example distance attackers grouped with melee, I may have to move around some to ensure I can flash all) and AoEs.

I had no clue for months and months that melee had bonus DPS attacks based off where they hit the mobs/boss. Then I poked around the forum and saw it and went "oh crap - melee must hate me" and vowed to stand still as much and often as I can. When dodging AoEs or frontal attacks I try and move only as much as necessary and go back in place. When distance and melee mobs, I position them so flag hits all, then stand still again.

So I've reformed and know it can happen.

Good luck and may you run into less break dancing tanks in the future.

This is less severe an issue for bosses and more a problem for larger group pulls.

If I don't dodge the healer gets mad cus they have to take off their cleric stance. If I do dodge the melee DPS gets mad cus it turns whichever mobs arent doing the aoe. It is the tank catch 22. Tank should try and stun so they dont have to move but, i'd rather annoy a melee DPS than the player that can chose me for extinction.

yeah large group pulls there really is not a way around it. as far as dodging the cone aoe, I believe if you move forward into the boss, then move out when the cone disappears, even though the mob goes through the damage ability and action, you won't get hit as long as you were not in the cone when it disappears. I use that all the time for aoe, as soon as the marker disappears I'm running back in even if its blowing up around me and not taking damage.
