It's possible and likely that you will only be able to join the Rogue guild after you cleared the story up to a certain point. As I posted in the other ninja + scout theard in general discussion.
Ninja will be available to everyone or only to those who cleared the main story?
New guy, gets home, install the game, starts brand newie...can he be a rogue -> ninja? wouldn't that create a plot paradox?
Lady Yugiri doesn't get here until you clear Prae and move on with the main story....how would she train a fresh 30 when she hasn't even got here in that guy story?
However, it's an evolving game world and it's not necessarily Yugiri that will teach you the Ninja job.
Never happened at ARR launch with Arcanist as new class
To everyone who have Rogue at level 30 or higher and another class at level 15 for the first ninja job class.
Another question is if Rogue is a starter class or if it need to get unlocked.

Wrong on one part. Everyone will play ninja the only time people will lolclass 8 before 5 he job unlocks. So about 30 minutes tops.
I wouldn't touch NIN even if I was paid to play it. x_x Why the hell do we get some lame ninja and not something really cool like proper thief. Or basically any other dagger double-wielder than ninja. I don't think ninjas would want to double-wield in a first place. /opinion
When 4th phase of beta started, Limsa Lominsa was overrun with Derpbuncles and arcanists. Now I see barely any summoners and some scholars. Give it time.
Paladin

White Mage

Bard
Typical end game party after rogue release.
Lol, you people are pathetic, almost as bad as those who believe adding a new tank class means magically more tanks.I wouldn't touch NIN even if I was paid to play it. x_x Why the hell do we get some lame ninja and not something really cool like proper thief. Or basically any other dagger double-wielder than ninja. I don't think ninjas would want to double-wield in a first place. /opinion
I'm willing to bet money that if they kept Ninja exactly as it is, same mechanics, same abilities, same gear, same every thing, but only called it "Thief" you would like it.
I don't think I've ever witnessed such childish and moronic behavior in my life before on any other forum.

of course everyone will play it....but there will be those that are dedicated and play it well and then there will be those that suck because lolninja. It's like that with every existing class already.
Once again the DF looks to pair Tank, Healer, Melee DPS, and a Ranged DPS. There is alot more ranged DPS, so on top of the potential shortage of tanks/healers the inballance of DPS adds to the length of the queues. I queue for Expert Roulette on my DPS when I am sick of tanking everything for a change, I do BRD and see average time 20-30min+, leave queue and switch to MNK and average wait normally says less than 5min. So NIN should actually help the endgame DPS queues.
For the first bit after 2.4, yes low level DPS queues will be horrendous, but this just means FATEs will become popular for a bit, and anyone wanting to level a ranged DPS or TANK or HEALER can take advantage of their need.
I've been thinking about this a bit more The development team has been very careful in their implimentation of new content since 2.0 and have been clever also in some respects. Now if they are spending so much time trying to balance the game, it makes no sense at all that they would only release 1 class and 1 Job before the expansion, Im still a bit surprised that they didn't announce another job at least in the 2nd half of the live letter but then i got thinking again...
If i remember correctly with FFXI SE announced BlueMage and Puppetmaster at a Fanfest not E3 .... and they have now scheduled one in October!
Either way they need to have something to announce at the Fanfest so I imagine they are holding back until then so they can suprise everyone!
