    No. Crystal Tower is one instance, do you realize how many FF11 enemies that are literally taken from FF11 in this game? It's fine to have little references, but a HUGE portion of the enemies in the game are directly styled from FF11, even the Chocobo is. A reference is suppose to be something you do to please people to give them a taste of something different, it isn't suppose to be the entirety of the game. If so, why even make a whole new world with lore if they're just going to reuse this? It makes it feel like FFXIV isn't it's own thing at times when I look at the enemies.

    I'm fully aware, but you are still talking about the coat of paint, not what the game itself is. If all those enemies were suddenly XIII models it wouldn't actually change the fundamental nature of the game's mechanics and design decisions, which is what people get divided on when it comes to "what parts of XI could XIV actually benefit from".

    Now, if you want to talk about WHY there's so many XI holdovers in terms of enemies, I would attribute this to the 1.0 development team having basically wanted to make an XI-2, both mechanically and in world. The mechanics half was a huge failure, however, because XI is a decade+ old and the entire MMORPG genre has moved on. Given that they developped ARR in less than half the usual development time of any other MMORPG, I can understand why they wouldn't work on completely overhauling the monsters populating the world where they could get away with it - it was still there and a completely functional resource, and the world of Eorzea was not what turned people off of 1.0.

    I guess I'll add this before I depart for the day: Personally, I'm extremely skeptical when it comes to XI aspects making their way into XIV. A lot of things in XI didn't work, even if many took a little while for it to become apparent, but they were acceptable for their time. That said, some things in XI are really good, though, but those things can be defended on a basis of more than just 'well, it worked in XI/I liked it in XI can it come here too?', and need to be considered not just with the 'it worked in XI' mentality but with the mentality of 'what COULD we do to make it work in XIV'. The same consideration that would be asked of any "Can we get [element from previous FF title]. XI just happens to be the game which seems to prompt this sort of expectation of mimickry more than others.

    This isn't WoW or (Insert MMO) either but it doesn't stop people including Yoshida from wanting those elements in this game. It's more like FFXI incorporated a lot of what was in FF into it and people enjoyed it, obviously there would be changes when it's brought into XIV.

    You know, like how they scaled down the jobs that do exist in XIV that was in previous FFs including XI? By all rights we should not be getting the Crystal Tower, Eureka or Golden Saucer, this is not Final Fantasy III or VII.

    the problem is that it has more the wow feeling and is far from being FFXI. It has copies of the same monsters and classes... though sadly they didn't copy the summoner job from it.
    The summoner job is like the same of Aions Summoninr - yet, far less fun to play

    Many of you didn't play 1.0, huh? One of the first things that stood out at the start was the distinct LACK of XI mobs. In fact, there was nothing but generic, unrecognizable monsters outside. Now at least it looks a little like a Final Fantasy world. Remember, we're talking about the 14+ installment of a series spanning three decades or so. Final Fantasy has iconic creatures, like Flans, Soulflayers, Slimes, etc. These weren't exclusive to XI, and didn't originate there. XI borrowed from earlier concepts and games.

    Having said that, I agree ninja should be a tank class if for no other reason than we NEED more tank classes. Every game is DPS heavy as it is, and without more tank classes that have enjoyable abilities, we'll continue to see long queue times and princess tanks. SE can't make the same mistakes they did with XI - not adding jobs that can do tank roles because they were afraid of hurting Paladin and Ninja's "feelings" (I'm thinking specifically of Dancer here, in which they were given "half" a provoke because it was feared they would displace existing tanks, which is never a good reason not to add something).

    Two tank classes isn't enough, and we can't even pretend it's really 4 because barely anyone plays the class after getting the job and no one plays it in "meaningful" content.

    Hey everyone ^^

    I too am bored with all the comparisons, but that's how humans are.

    What I don't understand is.. the lack of tanks? I am pretty much happy with my PLD.

    Ninja, Tank or DPS, I will still lvl it to cap and enjoy it.

    Same if they bring SAM on the expansion, or sooner.

    Today will be the letter 15 from the producer, and we'll be fixed for a while.

    another 3 weeks (1 book per week, no rush) and my PLD animus will be completed. (not to bring wrath to those who still struggle with atmas, some's are way more advanced than me.)

    I just go with the flow. I am having fun with my FC, I am excited about new classes/jobs/skill animations.

    so to me, we don't need more Tank classes. I will welcome them for sure, but we need more PEOPLE to play them, vs everyone going the easy way, rollling a bard only for example, and complain for the lack of tanks.

    Everyone can do everything in here. I think it's fair for all that you go the extra mile and lvl up one, not only for insta-queue, but to help the community on a larger scale.

    TBH, I am mostly a Mage in MMOs, hate being 'forced' into a role that I don't want. I just put aside my needs for the needs of everyone.

    You still have the choice of not doing it, concentrating on a limited one-job only. But those who do, don't have the rights to complain.

    I get into Tank mode (SCH too ^^) so you can enjoy your DPS or heals, please do the same so I can enjoy mines.

    My first ever FF was FFIV at around age 5 or 6 and I fell in love with the series, My favorite character being the summoner Rydia ofc. Summoners/Summons are easily my favorite part of the FF series. The way smn is represented in this game isn\\'t my ideal format for the job but I loooove summoner so much that it doesn\\'t ruin it for me. I like that when our OT fell off the edge fighting leviathan, I could rely on Titan to OT the remaining portion of the fight. Little things that will only get better as we receive more primal egis. I for one can\\'t wait for Shiva/Ramuh/Levi egis. Although I think they should separate smn/blm LB and make it so that the primal version of whatever egi comes out and does their trademark attack. The radius/strength could scale with LB bars obviously. That would be sufficient for me in making SMN feel like a SMN again.

    I am sick of people trying to turn this into XI 2.0 but they don't bother me anymore. FFXIV is its own thing thankfully.

    As for Ninja being a tank... it does't make any sense. There are jobs more suited for tanking in the FF series, like Defender or Templar.

    Lot of good opinions in here. I definitely like those who voiced legit opinions. But, and I'm wayyy too lazy to quote, I'm not "butthurt" and such a personal insult doesn't belong here. I'm also not speaking for anyone. I don't mind borrowing ideas that lasted well "Like NMs". It's basically the people who want classes copy-pasta that I get bugged by. Drg wyvern is not likely to happen in this game, and it's not even worth discussing. Nin dodge tank will not happen in this game, wasn't intended to happen in XI. I don't mind the overarching ideas, but there do seem to be people who want FFXI-2 which simply won't happen
