Reusing monster designs from previous Final Fantasies is one of the things that actually connects the otherwise completely independent games to each other, and should be encouraged. All of us who are fans of the series see things like Behemoths, Tonberries, Morbols, and so on, and those help to give the game a Final Fantasy feel. Mandragora are a newer addition; they debuted in FFXI, but also appeared in FFXII and now FFXIV.

FFXIV also incorperates models from FFXII (such as the snapjaw alligator things) and FFXIII (a lot of Coil mobs are from there), and I consider this a positive thing. Just because it also happens to be convenient, as it cuts down on development time, doesn't change the fact that it's an age-old Final Fantasy tradition to reuse monster designs from previous games.

You do realize the Chocobo appeared in final fantasy games before 11 right? (as did other monsters you have mentioned)...

    http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Chocobo

"Since their first appearance in Final Fantasy II, they have appeared in every game in the series in some capacity and are a mainstay of the games, and could be considered the series' mascot. The character chocobo also serves as the protagonist of the Chocobo Series of spin-offs."

When the developer himself says XIV was modeled after WoW specifically to give the Japanese playerbase a taste of what WoW was as it was never officially released, it's hard to say the game is its own thing in a way

You're right, this is not FFXI, it's FFWOW.
It would have been better if it was FFXI.
    Oh wait...

Do you honestly believe that the reason that people aren't playing tanks is because they don't like the class choices? No, they don't like playing tanks because its an often times stressful and boring job.

Adding a new tank class fixes NOTHING. Get this through your head.
    Tanks : PLD, WAR
    Healers : WHM, SCH
DPS : BRD, DRG, MNK, BLM, SMN

For every 1 tank and 1 healer role there are 1 and a half dps roles. Meaning even if every class was played in equivalent amounts, every 2 light partiess, and every full party would leave one dps short a group. By sheer numbers this game does, in fact, NEED more tank and healer jobs.

Also, yes more people play dps roles as you pointed out. So the solution to that is...piling more dps roles on top of it?

Adding a new dps class fixes NOTHING either. Get that through your head.

Ninja in FF 11 was suppose to be a tank the players made it a tank. RDM wasn't a main healer the players made it a main healer. The devs in FF 11 made those two a dd and a mage melee dd and the players took it and pigeon hold these two classes

Adding new tank and healer classes would only diversify the tank and healer pool, not increase the number of people who play them.

Case in point, lots of people wanted to play warrior! Then warrior was revealed to be a tank, and a good portion of those people said "eeeeehhhh nevermind"

The majority of people who play mmos play dps and dps only, adding new tank and healer jobs wont change that.

The more I see these threads, the more I affirm my theory that people don't really understand what they've read or heard that lead to these complaints. People will always want certain aspects that left positive impressions. Some ideas are much more focused on subjective systems than others (such as XI's open world endgame), but others are simply concept ideas that won't do anything to change the balance of play.

If they literally asked for something that's from another game, like XI, and wanted every aspect or a fundamental system change of it to be in this game, then yeah... the reply that "this is not XI" is quite fitting. Otherwise, it's simply concept ideas. It's no different than someone looking at the "rare spawn" or "players must progress through leveling up to 50" concepts and applying it to their game. They're ideas that the devs choose to make a part of the game. You look at what works and may be enjoyable, then see how it applies.

Both, you and the person you replied to, are right in some regard. Adding a new class changes nothing at all, regardless of the roles they fulfill. People don't tank/heal because of the role itself, not the class or how it's played. It's the psychology of the matter that you are responsible for more than just yourself. You're in the spotlight, essentially. You mess up as DPS, it usually doesn't mean much at all. You mess up as a tank or healer, and it (much more often than DPS) spells doom for your group. Combine that lack of interest in responsibility, with the commonly acknowledged rage children we see a lot more often than we should, as well as the basic instinct that we have to like to kill things in video games, then you have your exact primary reasons there's much less of these roles shown. A lot more than just the way they're played factors into why we play.

And the majority of people who play dps and dps only are usually terrible at being a dps. I've found in this game (probably true for others aswel) that the best players are ones who are able to play anything.
