I rather have XIV compared to XI then compared to WoW.
I rather have XIV compared to XI then compared to WoW.
This, and it stands to reason OP that people would compare it to its predecessor.
Stop being butthurt because they are doing that.
Furthermore anyone that knows anything about XI knows it was designed as a DPS but players took at as a tank [using Thief hate swap mechanics] and ran with it.
Lastly, where are all these tears your seeing. The VAST MAJORITY of people are happy for a new class. The only issue people have is that there is already an abudance of DPS and a lack of Tanks/Healers. It has NOTHING to do with NIN being a DPS.
the problem is that it has more the wow feeling and is far from being FFXI. It has copies of the same monsters and classes... though sadly they didn't copy the summoner job from it.
The summoner job is like the same of Aions Summoninr - yet, far less fun to play
To be brutally honest... Ninja in Final Fantasy XI was originally planned by the Development Team to be a DPS Class. The problem, and reason why it was regarded as a Tank was because the Devs decided to give Ninja the broken-est version of the Blink-Spell they possibly could, and allowed the players to give Ninja access to the Warrior's Provoke Command via Sub-Classing. That is the only reason it could tank. Otherwise it was really just a really bad DPS class.
Will it be a Tank in this game? Probably not. Will it be a decent to good DPS class? Who can tell other than the Dev's at this point?

Yup. Ninjas have been able to 'tank' in a couple FF games - V had !Image, XI had its shit, Bravely Default's Utsusemi negates like 70% of the attacks in the game which makes it absolutely stupid. But I've said it before and will repeat it forward - these were by and large accidents as opposed to deliberate design, and XIV is extremely deliberate in its design. To be brutally honest... It's totally about that, just about everything (non balance related) that people complain about regarding jobs is borne out of some notion they got from previous FF titles. It's not about something being in XI, it's about XIV needing something they should have added first.
Examples:
- RDM melee crowd in XI
- SMN's complaining about their Egi's in XIV
- People who want XIV DRG's to have wyvern pets
People seem to think "Oh I LOVED Job X in FFII, it should be exactly the same as that in every FF game for eternity.".
No, people want Red Mage not because it was in Final Fantasy XI, but because it has been in the overarching Final Fantasy series since Final Fantasy ONE!!!! It along with Warrior, Monk, Thief, Black Mage, and White Mage belongs to the original cast of Final Fantasy classes!!!
As for Summoners... I must be one of the few Summoners who doesn't want the Egi's to look like the Primals. I understand the design choice, and accept it for what it is. I would honestly be rather pissed if we ended up with actual clones of the Primals because I would feel that is against the Lore of the Game.
As for the Wyvern thing. I have to admit, I kind of do miss seeing Dragoons running around with they baby Dragons. But that is just me.

Meh, this game isn't XI and I'm glad its not XI, however, there is nothing wrong with
wanting something you might have enjoyed from another game. We are free to want
different things, and to each person they want different stuff. I would love more stuff
like campaign and besieged in XIV. That doesnt mean it has to be exactly the same at
all. I just want more content I can jump right into with npc allies and tons of enemies.
Fates could be like that if they were given idk.... a soul? at all lol. Theyre just spamfests.
We may not agree with what others want. I want nin dps and sam tank. I wanted thf to
be a job, but doesnt look like that will happen. And I get over it.
I applaud them adding ninja like this.
To me, it shows they are trying to make people happy even though this is going to cause trouble for them.
People don't really realize all the complaints they are going to get now because duty roulette queues will be horrible. SE knows this, there is no way they don't know, but they are releasing ninja first anyway. The reason is because they know we want to play it. People like playing dps classes more It's going to cause lots of trouble, at the same time though...
In a way, it could be compared to giving your child chocolate for dinner because they are begging for it. Now the parent has to deal with a hyper child that won't sleep and will probably get hungry in the middle of the night for real food and wake them up.
Basically they are spoiling us. Maybe they should have made us eat our vegetables and released a tank though, no denying that. Maybe spoiling us isn't a good thing. It might be the less good of the two options they could have done (IE making ninja a tank), but doing something at all is good imho. They could have starved the child! lol
