Yugiri?

Why does she have to be an existing race, or based on an existing race? They created Mithra, Galka, Tarutaru, Roegadyn, Miqote and Lallafel when they never existed before, so why not make Yugiri a new race just for FFXIV?

Mithra = Miqo'te
Tarutaru = Lallafel
Galka = Roegadyn
Elvaan = Elezen
Hume = Hyur

Zilart = Ascians
Padjal = hrm... not really sure, but my money is on Prishe herself specifically, if only due to the not aging thing.
Empire = no equivelency as it wasn't really used in Final Fantasy XI

point is, there is a lot of similarities between Final Fantasy XI, and Final Fantasy XIV as far as races and stuff goes. But Yugiri isn't one of them. That said, based on just looking at a picture of her tail, it is pretty clear that it looks a lot like a Rat's tail.

Lala's are based off of tarus, which are based off the child-like midget race from crystal chronicles. Padjal are based off of gria, and as others have all the rest of the races in xiv are variations of their xi counterparts. So I think its already pretty safe to say that it will very likely be based off of a pre-exisiting ff race. As for as "lizard-like" FF races go, Bangaa have been around in the FF mythos for a longtime.

Tbh I don't think we are going to find out what Yugiri is until it is revealed in the main story. It seems like something that they want to come up in a final cutscene.

Depends how you look at it in all honesty. Lore wise it could easily be explained away as the 'X' evolved differently from 'Y'.
