It's just a game. I highly doubt people would go to the huge trouble to rename themselves only to harass you,

We had a player that was so hated on our server on xi that he literally rolled more chars so he could make a pt. The ENTIRE server hated this guy and he knew it very well, but it was nothing that he hadn't brought upon himself. Not only was he rude but he would completely rip off any ls he joined and would ninja loot everything he could then claim he didn't understand the loot rules, but ppl were onto him and just stopped inviting him.

Now think of how bad it would have been if he could change his name any time he wanted. Piss off and steal from one ls and then change his name/appearance and do it again, then again and again with other groups.

That is where that level of anger comes from.

And I agree about the rp thing, have you ever tried to change your name in rl, even taking on a nickname of your own choosing? Doesn't work too well so doubtful it fits into rp standards as much as rerolling would

You can change your name legally IRL, it's surprisingly easier than you think. I'm sorry about the experience you had on XI, but honestly bad people are bad people, can't do anything about it.

I just can't see that being the norm and if it is, maybe the better option is to play a single player game if it matters so much that we need to track one another.

Despite all the cosmetic surgery technology that exists, it is like the movie, it is NOT easy to change how you look to others and if you do it to much you get to suffer like Michael Jackson.

You can't change your own lodestone loadout either if SE just adds 1 little line of HTML/Java to provide a list of char name per server you've had.

It is not just that. You'd also need to make sure the blacklist in game automatically track, and you can look up the said lodestone loadout from inside the game too. How about just no name change. Keep it simple.

I dunno, that just sounds obtuse and ridiculous. I guess agree to disagree.

But I am honestly disgusted by the responses, specifically because I can imagine some of you want to track someone because they messed up on a fight so that you can tell everyone how bad they are so no one will play with them.

I've read stories about people committing suicide over this kind of treatment.

Seriously it's just a game, I can't believe people need to be this hyper aware of one another that they want to track them it honestly sounds really creepy but maybe I am just a different person.

If this were XI you would be halfway to a point, but servers in XIV don't even remotely emulate the same kind of close player attention that XI had.

The populations are for one much larger on XIV servers and with the introduction of the Duty Finder system it's very likely that there are plenty of people on your server you've never even partied or interacted with, in fact even if they were from your server you might not recognize them as such with the tons of repeat names out there, i mean seriously go lodestone the name Highwind.. go on, I'll wait.

This isn't to say that someone couldn't go out of their way to make themselves notorious via /shout or the like in Mor Dhona but the ability to kick / blacklist from party finder etc kind of solves that issue.

In this game there aren't HNMLS to try and hide in and ninja drops or dynamis currencies filling up LS banks to steal, there's 8 man coil and it really shouldn't take that long in a coil group to remove unwanted issues should they arise.

If people are willing to pay for name changes i see no reason why they shouldn't be able to
