The FFXIV Community has made me rethink if I should stay

    Hello Everyone!

First: This is not a rant, but just want some opinions from different folks (veterans and newbies like me).

Second: this is a fantastic game thus far. I have leveled to 50, finished my class quest, storyline, and started my relic quest. I hear a lot of complaining from the FFXIV community, on simple things like:

"This is another waiting game" - ATMA questing (assuming thats for like a better weapon), Sight Seeing (have to wait on weather, time, location, blood type lol etc...), FATES, Long waits on dungeons, etc.

My thinking is that i pay a good amount of money to spend my vaulable time playing a video game of which should be valued entertainment for the "majority" of FFXIV. I totally understand that SE can't suit the game for everyones likes and dislikes, so they prolly do their best for the masses ON ONLY WHAT THEY ARE WILLING TO CHANGE WHICH ISN'T MUCH (The capital letters come from countless hours of reading the forums and trying to understand the FFXIV community)

I have went through the forums with a fine tooth comb and have RARELY seen a Dev or Admin show comfort/concern/entertainment/dislike etc from one of our posts. NO this is not World of Warcraft....but at least they ACTED like they care, I just don't see that here in FFXIV thus far.

Should i continue my pursuit to be the best darn Bard on my server (Ok lol, im stretching that one! ) knowing it will suck a year of my life away from waiting on groups, Random drops, upgrades to the upgrades to the upgrades to the questing for an upgrade to upgrade that upgrade? Ugh...maybe i should stop reading the forums and all the complaints...or maybe i should take heed? I don't know....what do you guys think?

Forums are always doom and gloom for every game. If you look at the forums every game that has ever been made has been the worst one in existence. It reminds me of this quote:

“In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.”

― Douglas Adams, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

So here's the deal, do enjoy playing? With the grinds that are in the game currently, do you see yourself continuing to have fun? If the answers are yes, keep playing.

Games (most mmo and/or rpgs especially) ARE random drops, RNG, upgrades, etc. they are also community, creativity, and an outlet to autonomy, relevance and spontaneity. It's all in how you play the game. I was this way for awhile. "Read forums, grind content, succumb to poor luck or bad attitudes..." Then I found a free company often filled with people who seem to just like to chat and help one another out, and it has done wonders for my mindset relative to the game. These games are going to suck countless hours from what might be much more productive time spent; it's how much enjoyment you can and are willing to wrest from the investment that is the deciding factor. I found the answer to be quite a lot upon finding a social based free company. I want content (gear, fights, etc) to be as accessible as the next person, but I also want to have a good time getting there. Sometimes the grinding and wiping is brutal, but when I have folks helping me through it, then it becomes memorable.

Well Said! Today i had a memorable moment....i printed out my relic quest steps from the internet and then saw i needed a composite bow with materia in it. I saw it on the market board and was gonna buy it.... I thought i should maybe ask my FC first to see if someone could put the materia in the bow i buy...so i asked....waited....and one of my members asked a couple questions and said meet me at the FC house. -> He handed me a +1 Composite Bow with materia installed in it....free of charge! Pretty good memory for me

Never take anything you see in the forums seriously. If the forums are always right, every game out there would be failing every week.

Most players don't use the forums. Even less post on the forums.

I'm a relatively new player (currently in my second month) and I love the game! It's all I play on PS4 now. I've got an i92 BLM that I use for endgame while I level up my BRD (currently at 43), a 50 GSM and doing some other crafters. Then after that, carry on my CNJ for WHM and GLA for PLD. Tons of content to keep me happy for a long time!
There are some parts that I hate, such as the Atma grind I'm doing, but it's not enough to put me off the game. I just don't FATE grind like everyone else, I only do it between wait times and stuff. I'm part of a great FC and we all help each other out with dungeons, crafting and gathering, etc. The positives for me far outweigh the negatives people like to complain about.
People can complain about the Sightseeing Log, Atma/Animus grinds and stuff but they don't have to do it. Nobody is forcing them to do content they find annoying.

I wouldn't pay so much attention to the forums unless you're specifically here to get a question answered or to search for information on something. Most if not all of the players here will complain about something somewhere, and everyone plays the game differently and enjoys different parts of it, but if you're paying too much attention to the complaining on the boards it's probably easy to think that everyone is completely discontent with it when they actually enjoy it enough to continue paying the sub. I tend to not worry about what others are complaining about unless I have the same complaint, which I don't always. I play the game for me, I do what I like to do and if I come across something I don't enjoy then I just find something else to do if that one thing sucks too much enjoyment out of my night.
