I used google translator on the supposed "rogue" name in german, and it came out to "scoundrel". Not really sure how scoundrel = a rogue lol.

Your other points notwithstanding, rogue and scoundrel are synonymous. Both mean a dishonest or immoral person, with a penchant for mischief and cruelty.

I think, at this stage at least, it seems pretty clear that Rogue is the class and Ninja is the job that stems from that class. The crossover of skills and styles would indicate that, as with all other class/job combos in the game.
