    Thief is an iconic job/profession/archetype in previous Final Fantasy games. The name has been tied to the role of a thief and thievery for over 10 FF titles. It's really that simple. The Japanese description for Rogue labels them as "Dual Fencers" as well, not thieves. Hence the obsession.
