名称については……開発チームでも本音を言えば“シーフ”と呼びたいのです(苦笑)。Interesting interview from bluegartr
Still confusing because Yoshida uses "job" and "class" when talking about Thief.
He doesn't actually state "job" in the first sentence, he just wanted it to be called Thief (referring to the class). I think the translator added that in, but he does say "class" later on in the paragraph.

Thanks for the clarification![]()

It doesn't really matter though, Ninja was excluded from some games and it was there from the start. So was Thief. So it sets the idea, "Thief or Ninja won't be in all games".
It's more likely Ninja is more popular than Thief anyway (cuz Japan).

Has everyone forgotten or is ignoring the fact that:
in FF1 Thief changes into Ninja?
To me it seems perfectly fine that Rogue (Thief Basically) is the class that later unlocks Ninja.
And even if SE ever decided to implement Thief as a job, what would set it apart from Ninja as a dps role? And a class branching off into 2 dps roles? That wouldn't make much sense and would seem pointless.
If I wanted to be a Thief so bad, I would just glamour my Ninja with green gear and a bandanna like in the Rouge/Ninja trailer.
The point is, Thief turning into a Ninja isn't new and has been around since the first FF game.
Man I remember back in my day when jobs were there own thing and not tied by a silly class letting each one be unique.
Another example of how the class system design is just holding the game back.

So is this thread basically a long QQ about wanting thief now?

The really fun part is that I'm sure almost everyone who played Thief in FFXI probably went for THF/NIN so they were casting Jutsus all the time![]()

shut your whore mouth sir! if a single Jutsu is done then everything else I do in combat is meaningless! Stealthing in for the backstab with my daggers after casting a jutsu to make myself do more damage!?!?!?! MADNESS
Side note: Zidane is my least favorite Thief character in the series. I actually disliked IX on the whole, but I'm weird like that...
As to everything else, in the end I will give it a chance and see what I think since it is the class I was most looking forward to when I started playing. Who knows, maybe I will be surprised and actually enjoy it, only time will tell. My greater point is that many players, myself included, were disappointed (not raging...) by the announcement, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Only on occasion for solo content. THF/WAR was way more fun
