It ultimately doesn't matter what it becomes because I will be playing the hell out of it! Took them too long to introduce a Rogue/Thief/Ninja/Assassin type class and now that it's finally here, I am PUMPED.

The answer, we don't know yet.

What job roles a class branches into doesn't particularly matter because it's the class that levels, it takes 2 seconds to swap from one job to the other. So long as they occupy different niches (not necessarily different roles) then I don't see an issue with Rogue branching into Ninja and Thief jobs.
I'd love a Rikku style Thief job working as a pseudo-support melee-bard type job, but whether or not that will work with Rogue/Ninja really does remain to be seen.
Edit: Because Arcanist branches into a DPS and Healer people seem to jump to the conclusion that it has to be that way with every class but it really doesn't, it would be nice if most classes could end up that way as it would really help queue times I think, but SE shouldn't try to force jobs that won't work onto classes just to try and make sure every class can fill 2 different roles.

Anyone besides me hoping for Far Eastern gear like obis and things for NIN and SAM? Kinda weird seeing a NIN in westernish armor like leather.

Ninja = rogue + 5 abilities
rogue = thief
Ninja = thief + 5 abilities
What raid tier role currently exists that is different from their base in anything but name (except sch since it goes form a dps to a healer)
pug / monk = pug + dragon kick (added into pug rotation) + shoulder tackle (a movement ability) + a dmg buff.
thm / blm = thm + flare and some utility abilities
So your saying because it gained the flare ability it is a completely different class from thm? And because Rogue (thief) gains a couple abilities it is no longer going to use the other 17 abilities it has?
It's more accurate to say your playing rogue(thief) at 50 than ninja at 50. since 17 of the 22 abilities (and all the passives) are from rogue(thief)

It's not a big deal right now but the more skills jobs get the less we will play like the class the job came from. I don't really see what the big difference between Ninja and a thief at endgame would be besides ninja having ninjutsu and thief having more generic DPS skills to make up for the fact that the one gimmick of thief can only be used with so many things (stealing)anyway.

Mental jumping jacks that still do not reflect the reality that you are not playing a thief at 50, parties shall not seek a thief at 50, and the game itself is not developing a thief.Ninja = rogue + 5 abilities

You are literally ignoring all manner of UI, skills, lore, and naming connotation to insist we have a thief.

That's why we say that people are complaining about a lack of name.
Give them a Ninja that can steal, mug, hide, sneak and trick attack, flee, and use every past skills from Thief archetype in the whole FF franchise, and they'd...still...be...complaining
I suppose people would have gotten mad if the game gave us Knight (Paladin), Fighter (Warrior), Black Belt (Monk), Priest (White Mage) and Wizard (Black Mage) like some FF did. DRG was even named "Lancer" in FF Anthology (Unacceptable !)

If it gets steal we pretty much do. There isn't much to thief besides stealing.Mental jumping jacks that still do not reflect the reality that you are not playing a thief at 50, parties shall not seek a thief at 50, and the game itself is not developing a thief.
