Chocobo barding (the equipment it wears) is gained in many different ways. Besides the default Grand Company barding, you can gain more fancier GC barding from the Company Vendor with Company Seals (they require you to be a higher rank in that Company though to purchase them), plus there are other types of barding that are usually either quested or gained through special offers. Some barding was also included with the Collector's Edition.
