Most players who know DPS numbers are using a 3rd party PC app (like ACT or FFXIVAPP) that collects/monitors the battle log and totals the damage values.

Yoshi, all of the devs, and even the community team know this happens unofficially. They even implied it on the last episode of Duty Commenced (#3) and in one of the live letters.

They aren't able to condone their use publicly because of potential malware/software changes the apps could give (if the developers decided to be malicious) and they tend not to shoot down the users unless the results generated from these apps are used to discriminate other players (i.e. players being denied to stay in a party because of their low DPS).

A parasing screenshot can be misleading. You can use potent poison to add about 20 dps. That's 20 dps that's not coming from you.

I also consider it 'cheating' to use potions that raise your main stat.

These are things people normally don't do. Yes, it increases your dps number but they're not practical and never required.
When you wear gear that give stats that can raise your dps tremendously. But that DPS is not coming from you.

I also consider it "cheating" to use gear of an item level of 90 or higher.

These things are people normally don't do. Yes, it increases your DPS numbers but should never be practically required.

I feel that someone in this thread is a throwing out blatant troll bait and you all fell for it.

Have 2 Mnks and let him do all the Dragon Kicks. Also, you have to take everything you read on the Internet with a grain of salt. Actually, make that a bucket of salts. One person made an analogy of DPS to one's dick size, people will always claim to be have a bigger dick than they actually have. Even if they post a screenshot, there can still be many problems with it, problems that I have listed far too many times so I won't do so again. The only way to truly access someone else's dps is to be there yourself and parse it yourself and even then you could be overlooking some factors.

I can tell you this though, 450+ dps is certainly not "common." Of all the ilv110 weapon Mnks I've seen, they only make 440-460 dps if they have another Mnk doing Dragon Kick, else they are around 420ish. T8 is such a stationary fight that as long you have know how to play the job, there are only so many things you can change in your rotation, very few of which will make much difference.

You must not know the monks I know.
As you said T8 is fairly static - it's quite easy to break 440+ with ilvl110 weapon on a dummy, if you then include party buffs (str buff, tp song, selene haste buff, food, pots) you should be doing more than your dummy dps on T8.
If you can't replicate your dummy dps on T8 then your mechanics need work.
