More times than naught it's the ISP's fault by routing to an overloaded node, you could say that you can use a vpn to get around the issue with no problem.Yep several months ago. I have time warner so they played the blame game that everyone's complaining about. SE says its TW's fault, TW said its SE's fault. Nothing has been done since the beginning of ARR and nothing ever will be. Pingzapper makes it tolerable but still have random lag spikes at peak times.
hmm I have Cox Cable and have only had in-game lag once and that was on there end and they fixed it. I play on Diabolos in case anyone was wondering. I only have basic cable package of 5MBs (but I realistically get 5.4MBs) down and 1.1MBs up, so not super fast speeds at all.

Play on Balmung, using Cox cable, 90k once today (rare), and minor lag here and there, but no problem in Duty at all.
He's talking about how yesterday (and today) people were getting super lag and getting kicked due to R0. I haven't timed out of the game in months - maybe since last year and yesterday I got kicked multiple times along with almost everyone in my FC.
Hence the maintenance.
the only time I 90k normally is t6 ever since 2.8, yesterday I barely finished my roulette and was terrified to do my alex maps. Every time I entered an instanced server I would dc within 15min and I would run into a que when I came back. I assumed it was/is the duty servers being messed up since cactuar wasn't all that busy yesterday.
I always lag after a new patch, and then 2 weeks later it's gone. Is that really my ISPs fault? I mean how would the ISP know that they added a new patch and then "alright new patch, let's make it hell for Kiara, but only for 2 weeks so that she wont suspect us!"
Edit: Now I got 90k doing one fate, logged in again and the fate was gone, ran to the next fate, fate almost done and got another 90k.
I'm gonna write an angry letter to them every day til I get the playtime I lost back due to lag :@@

Getting major lag spikes recently, using software to help isn't really an option on PS4.
At least on the forums the reports of bad 'lag' seemed to have subsided. While I get a fairy good 100ms from the UK (Virgin Media, cable) there used to be occasions where I'd get hit when I was 100% certain I was out of it in time. It still happens but very rarely. There's even times when I was sure I was in it but wasn't!
The internet wasn't made for twitch responses so MMOs have to have some mechanisms to deal with that and it seems that FF14 2.x doesn't. A VPN tunnel shouldn't be required to play an MMO. If players have to do this it's SE that loose out when players decide it's not worth it. They can increase the polling rate sure but they need to make client side code that compensates for higher latencies like other games do. Hopefully 3.x will have such work done to it.
Will more data centers solve the issue? I'm in Massachusetts an the nearest data center is in Canada. I don't have lag problems but people further south have tons of problems. If they put one in the middle of the Us people with Lag can connect to that. Samething around the world.
I was getting the horrible spikes and rubberbanding WHILE using battleping. It started after the maintenance and didn't become noticeable until sunday (EST). Pretty confident this is on squares end.
