Lightbulb Fringe Theories: The Sunken Temple of Qarn Edition

    Hi Folks!

Recently, when redoing the Temple of Qarn as I levelled, I made an abstract connection. And it all had to do with tails.

I propose that Yugiri's race may not be coming to Eorzea for the first time as assumed, but may have lived in Eorzea before the Sixth Astral Era! Of course, this is all speculation and crazy talk, and I myself am saying it with a grain of salt, but here's my evidence.

Under the unforgiving Thanalan sun lie and ruins of an ancient temple half-devoured by the shifting sands of timeless desert. Through used by ancient Belah'dians as a place to worship the sun goddess, Azeyma, the massive underground structure appears to be far older than this Sixth Astral Era civilization. That, however, did not deter Belah'dian sultans from each adding their own chambers to the original construct to a bid to achieve immortality through creation. In the subsequent years since the fall of Belah'dia, many an adventurer has sought to explore the temple's mysteries and perhaps return with the treasure of a lost era... Only to fall victim to one of the complex traps set to prevent that very thing from happening.
First, I was not aware that Belah'dia was prevalent during the Sixth Astral Era, as this isn't on many of the timelines I researched. I assumed it to be older. But, that would indicate that the people that built the original chambers of Qarn could predate many of the races (Hyur, Miqot'e) who have migrated here. The chambers in the rooms of the Temple of Qarn take on a Lalafell pattern at first glance - and yet the statues at the end, in the presumably older depths of the temple, do not look Lalafellan to me...

The people who built Qarn, could have had tails. I am making this assumption based on the statues at the end of the chamber: Could they be statues of their rulers, of a representation of gods?

It is possible that they are not a representation of the Twelve - Azeyma is the Goddess worshiped in this temple by the Belah'dian people, and this statue looks quite masculine to me.

Notice the quite thick tail, which curls around his stone body slightly, and the face - it is quite a human-looking face, unlike the tailed beastmen tribes we have seen thus far. It's also very different from Miqo'te tails.

However, Miqo'te are said to have migrated into Eorzea during the Fifth Umbral Era - they could very well have fit the timeline and built the temple. Perhaps it is a representation of a nunh and his council who encouraged the migration efforts from the Miqo'te homeland to Eorzea?

Yet, I can't help but feel that there is a resemblance to the shape and length of the tail to our fair Lady Yugiri.

Could it be that the race of people of built Qarn are those who were of Yugiri's kin? Her ancestors, who migrated to Othard during an Umbral Era perhaps?

Or are the statues of something else? Some other representation? Thoughts? Ideas? I found it rather interesting and exciting that this could be a possibility of a race long forgotten from a realm returning home...

That's a very interesting theory, and considering the exact builders of Qarn is actually unknown (the Duty Finder mentions it seems to predate Belah'dia, whose rulers simply repurposed it and added to it), but from what I'm aware from a non-lore standpoint, the dungeon is meant to be a subtle tip of the hat to FFXII, specifically the Stillshrine of Miriam (the Facer enemies in Qarn for instance are straight out of FFXII).

Given Yugiri's actual race is still unknown at this point, I think it's still far too early to speculate on whether her people ever had contact with Eorzea prior to the present day, but I'm liable to think they have not (after all, she seems very confused about Eorzean customs).

More than likely Qarn was built originally by yet another currently unknown civilization, which would fit how SE seems to be adding more and more 'forgotten civilizations' beyond the 'original' Gelmorra, Sil'dih and Allag that were first mentioned in 1.0 (we now have the Amdapori, Nym, and Belha'dia civilizations as well) But I digress.

Of course, I completely agree Enkidoh I am personally taking it with a grain of salt, it is fringe at best, however them stone tails are playing on my mind! This was just a random connection I made that I thought would be fun to share Just to talk about your point - If Yugiri's race did originate from Eorzea and left, it could have been for hundreds of years. So, of course, it would make sense that she knows little of Eorzean customs or modern history.

I guess, I am curious about those tailed statues and what exactly they are meant to represent?

I'm liking this as a possibility and, hey, I'm not in a position to debunk it.
