Newby question...about gamepad

Hello all!

first of all, im a newby here, and also a bit of a newby on playing PC games

I played pc games back in the DOS time but not much after, i love gaming but i prefer my consoles over the pc, which changed with the "online" games (dont trust sony with my creditcards )

Because of this im used to game with a gamepad/joystick instead of a keyboard and mouse.
i can, but its more difficult.
Thats why i bought a gamepad. its a speedlink strike, and installed right (i checked on the pc)
However, its not doing anythin in the game (or any other for that matter).

what am i doing wrong ??

im sure its just a stupid small thingy, but as i said, im a newby

Yeah in the ffxiv config on the first screen there's "Gamepad".

Go into the Final Fantasy XIV Config program. You have the option to configure your game pad. First, make sure it is turned on, second, assign all your buttons. I use a 360 controller configured as follows:

Left Stick: Movement
Right Stick: Camera
D-Pad: Menu controls
Back: Unassigned (Used for my voice-chat software)
Start: Map
Y: Menu
B: Cancel
X: Active/Passive Mode
A: Confirm
Left Trigger: Auto Run
Right Trigger: Emote (Which is also used for Battle Regimen, Marking Targets, etc.)
Left Bumper: Ctrl Macros*
Right Bumper: Alt Macros*

*I might have these backwards. I can't look right now because I am patching. But this button assignment also controls tabbing left and right between tabs in a window; for example between Loot, Inventory, and Bazaar, and I have them set up for right bumper tabs right, left bumper tabs left. If the tabbing is backwards, just reverse them.

(On a side note: Most people using my setup as a base, would probably feel more comfortable swapping the X and Right Trigger buttons. Its an odd tweak that might be awkward for most people)

jw, when updating, is it going very slow for everyone or just me ?

i just got a new pc, with i5 processor and 4 gb ram, my internet has fiberpower of 60mb/s

upload speed doesnt get alot higher then 30 kb/s and download speed wont get 1 mb/s and gets back to 0 kb/s alot of times :S , with 17 local connections

There is a lot of debate about whether or not the patcher is broken. For me, about 90% of the time, it works perfect. Last patch and this patch, not so much. I have a 6mb down, and I'm lucky to get 200k down. Some people use 3rd party torrent programs instead; and even though I have never seen SE -say- you aren't allowed to 1.) technically its a violation of the terms of service, 2.) they always delete threads about how to do it.

Personally, today, 3rd party programs actually running slower for me, so I am using the patcher. You CAN set up port forwarding on your modem/router, and see if that helps. It does help a LOT of people (sometimes it helps me, other times it doesn't seem to matter). You can search the forums here or google search "FF14 Port Forwarding" to find a how-to.

I set up the patcher perfectly but it still has a BIG overhead. My netlimiter always shows that the patcher uses more bandwidth than it actually shows on the screen... conspiracy?? xD
