    About My Chocobo

First of all, this is my first post on this site, so it's nice to meet you all and hopefully I will come here more often!

I am a level 27 Archer, I fell a little bit behind with my story quests so I have only just got my chocobo (I'm working through my storyline quests as top priority). How do I get armour for my chocobo? I see a lot of people with very cool looking armour on theirs and I'm wondering if I can get hold of some straight away or how I could work towards this?

Hey Myraii, first, welcome to the forum, and welcome to the game!

Now, as you know to get your chocobo, you had to spend up those GC (Grand Company) Seals. For those different armors for your chocobo (known as 'barding') you've got a few options that I know of, there may be more.

    1) You can buy another set of barding from your Grand Company for seals, i haven't actually done this myself though, so i have no idea what it looks like!
    2) The collectors edition of the game comes with a new set of Behemoth Chocobo Barding, that's the ones with the purple horns type thing.
    3) Being subscribed eventually rewards a black mage barding (3 months if i remember rightly, possibly wrong though)
    4) And the other way i know is that so many player commendations gets you a chocobo barding. This can be checked in the achievements menu in game.

    Welcome to Eorzea!

Chocobo barding (the equipment it wears) is gained in many different ways. Besides the default Grand Company barding, you can gain more fancier GC barding from the Company Vendor with Company Seals (they require you to be a higher rank in that Company though to purchase them), plus there are other types of barding that are usually either quested or gained through special offers. Some barding was also included with the Collector's Edition. There is too many different sets of Barding to mention here, so the best place to find out this information is this site: http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Ca...hocobo_Barding (scroll down to where it says 'Barding' for the current list).

    Some more bardings:
    • Trade 5x Odins Mantle for a sleipnir barding. (drops from odin fate if you get silver or gold, not sure about bronze)
    • Veteran rewards: Black mage (180 days), Barding of Light (360 days)
    • Leviathan Barding: crafted from Leviathans Barb. Might be available on the marketboard.
    • Relic barding: train your chocobo to rank 10. You need to spend all points in one skill tree to obtain the barding. Barding depends on the skill three - WHM for healer tree, DRG for attacker, and a tin can tank barding for the defender tree.
Obtained from seasonal events <-- these are unavailable for now. Maybe you can find some in the marketplace.
    • Starlight Barding
    • Egg Harness

Thanks for all of the info guys, very useful! I will be purchasing a subscription soon, I will do the one that gets 90 days at a time - it works out cheaper than buying 30 days. If I was to purchase 90 days, would I get the reward for 90 days subscription straight away or would I get it after 90 days?

Also, to save making a new thread - is the armour sold by GC vendors (for seals) worth buying?

The gears by GC is a good replacement if you are short of money for crafted ones, they have extra bonus stats the more you have the gears equipped. However, each GC gear of the same level have different substats on them that might or might not help with your current class depending on which GC you joined.

You would get the 90 days award right away.

As for your second question, if there are any gaps in your current gear the CG gear is a viable option. Even more if you are leveling multiple classes, as they can be equiped by almost any class. Crafted gear is probably better, but if you don't have any gil to spend (or don't want to spend it) CG gear is definitely an option. If all of your gear is still up to date there is little reason to replace them though.
