    Questions about Doma?

I'm sure many questions will be answered as we go on, we might even be able to see the lands as we go forward into expansions and such, but for now I'd like my curiosity sated.

One, I'm curious about the races that might live in that part of the world. As we have seen so far that there are many Hyurs from Doma, along with whatever race Yugiri is. Are there Miqo'te, Roegadyn, Lalafell, or Elezen there? I know I might have just overlooked it in the story if there are, but I don't remember seeing any or hearing any mention.

Two, I'm far more curious about the lands of Doma. Is it a tropical region, desert? Or maybe several, just like in Eorzea.

Obviously as players we can only find out so much, so hopefully Fernehalwes can answer some of these questions. Hopefully!

At present, I am rather certain that we don't have any real details in regards to any of your questions.

I would guess, based on Yugiri's reluctance to show her face, as she knows how most not of her own race would react to her visage, that she has at least interacted with races other than just the Hyur (this is of course not a very reliable base for any theory, as it might just as well be a half-arsed excuse for being able to tease a new race without giving it all away at once). We know that the Garlean Empire primarily employs Hyur and Elezen, along with the "proper" Garleans (those with a third eye), so having been a part of a kingdom that is under the control of the Empire, she would have encountered those three races, at the very least. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that any of those are natives of Doma.. Then again.. None of the races are native to Eorzea.

No one lives in Doma anymore.

On a more serious note, probably Hyur and Cat People. Plus whatever the masked folks are.

Hyur and Yugiri's race seem to be living in Doma in harmony, but as for other races? Well, as Othard is mostly under imperial control, and we have seen that the Garleans bulk up their ranks with citizens of conquered nations (and that their ranks have had members of all five races), we could assume that there are members of all give races in Ilsabard and Othard.

I would think that Doma is a land, rather than lands. Othard is the continent on which Doma is located. Is Doma a city-state or a region of Othard? I'm not quite sure. But if you look at Eorzea, and how each city-state has a region, I am certain Doma would be the same - Doma could be the name of the city-state (Like Ul'dah) or it could be the name of the surrounding region (Thanalan).

We can infer that Doma has fertile lands and lots of trees, as there were peach farms (as mentioned during the stinky-chocobo quests at Vesper bay) and the children talk about training in running across tree tops as youths (as mentioned currently in the Rising Stones).

Some reference to real-world history would be helpful here. We tend to forget that the concept of a "nation-state" is actually very modern, and did not become common until some 300 years ago.

While some countries like England and France were beginning to develop a "national identity" around the 1300s and 1400s, people in these places would still more readily identify themselves as subjects of a monarch, than of a "country" per se.

In other words, up until recently in history, loyalties were more personal than they were "national".

It was actually more common for prosperous cities to gain prominence, with a rare handful ascending into full-fledged land or maritime empires. In ancient times, we had the likes of Babylon, Rome and Athens. And in the Middle Ages, there were Italian cities like Venice, Florence and Genoa.

And in most of these cases, loyalties were usually pledged to the city, and not specifically to an area of land. It was only in a few rare cases that an area of land was readily identified with a "nation", like China, Japan or India.

Would Doma have its own language? we know the Ascians and beast tribes do. But with Domans being under Garlean rule for a while, what would of happened? yes its common to speak Eorzean in Eorzea but, Doma is another land.

Eorzea is sub continent of the Orthard mainland continent. and considering how Doma and Eorzea have same races population, i would suspect the language is the same but the accent is not.

Eorzea is a region which is inclusive of the continent of Aldenard and the islands surrounding it, such as Vylbrand. Othard is another continent to the East, just to clarify.

And as for language, I am unsure. In the Heavensturn events, the characters from the Far East seem to be very exaggerated and have odd dialect versus a typical Eorzean, whilst the Domans are not as extreme. Perhaps the Easterlings are bilingual.

Well, are we sure that Doma is in the far east? On Earth Japan is in the far east and Doma is a place with asian looking Hyur, mystery women with japanese names, and ninjas, so in essence Japan. That being said they are not necessarily Far Eastern.
