Well, are we sure that Doma is in the far east? On Earth Japan is in the far east and Doma is a place with asian looking Hyur, mystery women with japanese names, and ninjas, so in essence Japan. That being said they are not necessarily Far Eastern.Eorzea is a region which is inclusive of the continent of Aldenard and the islands surrounding it, such as Vylbrand. Othard is another continent to the East, just to clarify.
And as for language, I am unsure. In the Heavensturn events, the characters from the Far East seem to be very exaggerated and have odd dialect versus a typical Eorzean, whilst the Domans are not as extreme. Perhaps the Easterlings are bilingual.
From the official website, item text descriptions and dialogue. Othard is the Eastern continent, also referred to as the Far East as confirmed in Through the Maelstrom. Ilsabard is the other "Great Continent" - there being three: Aldenard, Ilsabard and Othard. Ilsabard is where the Garlean empire originated from, and seems to be connected to Aldenard by land bridge.
Othard is under Garlean rule: "One nation after the next fell before their relentless onslaught, first those of the northlands, followed by the sovereign states of the eastern continent, Othard." (http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/wor...hreats/content)
from the facts about Yugiri located on: http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/spe...The_Maelstrom/Hailing from the nation of Doma on the shores of Othard, Yugiri and her countrymen have fled their war-torn home and the oppression of Garlean rule in search of refuge.
With supplies and hopes for survival dwindling, Yugiri seeks council with Eorzea's leaders, that they too may call this land their home.
She also mentions in cutscenes, as well as some of her refugees, that they come from the East![]()

Yhan, the White Viper.
Some reference to real-world history would be helpful here. We tend to forget that the concept of a "nation-state" is actually very modern, and did not become common until some 300 years ago.
While some countries like England and France were beginning to develop a "national identity" around the 1300s and 1400s, people in these places would still more readily identify themselves as subjects of a monarch, than of a "country" per se.
In other words, up until recently in history, loyalties were more personal than they were "national".
It was actually more common for prosperous cities to gain prominence, with a rare handful ascending into full-fledged land or maritime empires. In ancient times, we had the likes of Babylon, Rome and Athens. And in the Middle Ages, there were Italian cities like Venice, Florence and Genoa.
And in most of these cases, loyalties were usually pledged to the city, and not specifically to an area of land. It was only in a few rare cases that an area of land was readily identified with a "nation", like China, Japan or India.
Hey guys!
I am dying to tell you all I know about Doma (and Yugiri), but if I spilled any of the tasty beans now, I'd be on a certain producer/director's kill list--the main reason for this being that, a WHOLE lot of information is planned for release in the coming months. Until then, keep up the good work scouring the game/topics/lodestone for hints/foreshadowing regarding the mysterious refugee, her people, and her homeland. The truth is out there!

I want that poster!
I want to believe! I am still holding out hope that her people and homeland is actually Eorzea, Thanalan - that they are the original builders of the Temple of Qarn (and the males of her race have magnificent goatees) before Belah'dian occupation. Time will tell!

;-; Ugh. I will continue to search.
Square, can we have an OCE fanfest now?
