If you download PingPlotter freeware: http://www.pingplotter.com/freeware.html

I will use my server IP from Adamantoise as an example.
To get your Server IP follow the instructions here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post2180490

You can set it to ping 199.91.189.28 which is the Adamantoise Server address. Make sure it's set to unlimited with 20 samples.

DO NOT USE 84.107.107.176 that is the wrong IP. It's for the web server for FFXIV not an actual game server.

Okay so I decided to ping the actual Adamantoise server that I play on. It turns out the IP for the Adamantoise server is 199.91.189.28

How to find out your IP to the server you play. On windows 7 and or 8 launch the 'Resource Manager'. Go to the Network tab and check incoming TCP connections. You may want to sort by name. Those on WinXP will need to download TCPView or something.

Launch FFXIV and login with your character on the server you play. Go back to the Resource Manager and you should find ffxiv.exe on the list. Write down the IP address that it's using. That will be the IP to your server.

    -------------------------------

Turns out that I do actually go through the terrible level 3 network. I'm getting massive packet loss getting to their servers.

    Adamantoise Server: 199.91.189.28

The packet loss fluctuates but I've seen it as high as 38% packet loss on some of the Level 3 networks.

Wonderful, apparently that router on Level 3 has a long history of being lossy.

Well I keep using PingPlotter to ping the Adamantoise server and things have only gotten worse. Seriously they need to reach out to the ISP's or IWEB / LEVEL 3 and get this resolved. This is unacceptable regardless whom is at fault. Someone has to take an initiative on their end and contact the ISP's to get this resolved.

Recently, I've been seeing the same thing on TATA's lines... at two different points getting over into CA. It happens eventually with each of the big 3 that handle the traffic across the border. First spotted it with Cogent, got switched off them only to find it with TATA, then switched to Level3 until it caught us there. Since Then it has been a back and forth every few weeks. It's about time for TWC to move me again... just haven't notified them yet, since most the time it only creeps up to 500-700 or so, then settles down. Once it gets to the point I get the *'s though, I'll do the big data dump to them and they'll get me routed differently and tell me to bounce my modem a few days later.

Just wish they'd get off their duffs and open more peering bandwidth. Guess the whole mess about the potential Comcast buy out is working against us, not wanting to invest a lot in their infrastructure right now. One really frustrating thing is that Ormuco actually has an extensive network that they might be able to tap into directly as a tier2 partner or something. Already passed the info on to them, but all I got was the patent "we'll forward it to Engineering" BS. Like beating your head against a brick wall sometimes....

Wrong IP address... that is a webserver, running on i-Web's network segments on the other side of town. That IP is used for games from the EIDOS library and has redirects to SE sites:

    Code:
    C:\Windows\System32>nslookup justcause.com
    Server: dns-cac-lb-01.rr.com
    Address: 209.18.47.61

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: justcause.com
    Address: 184.107.107.176

    C:\Windows\System32>nslookup eidos.com
    Server: dns-cac-lb-01.rr.com
    Address: 209.18.47.61

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: eidos.com
    Address: 184.107.107.176
The IP for the Canadian game server starts with 199 and is hosted on Ormuco's network segments. The JP ones that are used for things like version check and authentication start with 124.

Run Resource Monitor (resmon from run/search box) and look in the network/TCP sections to find the IP that ffxiv is using when logged fully into the game. If you are in XP, you will need to open a command prompt and run netstat and look for the 199 address.

And, yes, it can make a difference in your traces--most importantly when you are switching off of your ISP's routing partner (more specifically, the Tier1 provider like Level3, TATA, Cogent--i-web is not a Tier1 provider). Most will find the route only changes at the end, but it may happen much earlier depending on where they are coming from or how their ISP is routing internally.

    Code:
Tracing route to 199.91.189.25 over a maximum of 30 hops	Tracing route to 184.107.107.176 over a maximum of 30 hops
