Think I got my atma from eastern thanalan on my second fate there, but it's the only time something like that happened. Every other atma took a long time. Now I am having no luck getting any alexandrite from fates. Bleh.

Hmmm yeah I tried to get my first couple day ago..spent 2 hours at one place..got so angry so spent another 20 min sending like 15 angry cuss letters to Square...made me feel better..then last night i was waiting for a coil party to fill so just did 1 fate really quick and got my atma drop

For the sake of your sanity, mix up what you're doing. Spending several hours at a time in one area is just going to drive you crazy.

Also I dunno where you got 10% from, but it's actually closer to a 2.8% chance, based on other people's numbers over time. Still, that doesn't mean you'll get it within 97 tries either, it could be more, or less.

Who says they set an actual percentage at all? Random: You either get it or you don't. So I guess 50/50 chance but no actual drop rate. I'm sure there is someone who has gone 1/1 on all. Even still drop rates, especially observed, mean diddly. If we take your observed .25% drop rate and someone's observed 100% drop rate we get a 50.125% drop rate which obviously doesn't mean anything to you since you're at a .25% (or less) observed drop rate.

There was a reported drop rate of 89% with a large sampling size for an item in FFXI and I went away getting it after about 213 kills I think it was. Again, observed drop rates don't mean anything in the end.

Since many people got 12 in 20hr and many people got 1 in 20hr, and everyone said they were grinding same hard.

I would say the drop rate is RNG by player but not by item, as I saw random drop rate for random player, some have 50% and some have 0.05%
