Great point, I'd have liked to get the weapon for my bard or sch, but.... yeah no way loli wont say goodbye causals, but i will say : goodbye to all any alts classes relics you arent planing to specialize in!
the atma/animus/novus grind just make getting relic on alt jobs a useless. the amount of time you need to put into novus for ONE job is stupidly high. so freaking high that trying to level the other relics is nonsensical.

This. I have monk animus. Am working on BLM animus. I have mnk i110 tome weap as well(got it after). Mnk is my primary class for coil. We beat t9 so i'll be getting i115 as well. so mnk animus is put on hold indefinitely.i wont say goodbye causals, but i will say : goodbye to all any alts classes relics you arent planing to specialize in!

BLM. BLM was my first main(didnt start mnk till late january). BLM is now my alt. I'll be getting that i115 weap as well. So my animus/novus for blm will be something i take at a snail's pace. I'm talking like straight up not caring/only doing when I'm bored/have nothing else to do in-game. It'll be my side chick and nothing more.

My definition of casual : (Ppl who have between 5-10h to play a week), not that they are bad but they don't have time to play a lot
It's not impossible for casual to get it, but do you think that 6 month / a year of grinding is OK??? I don't .... I don't because by the time casual will get there novus, a lot of other content/upgrade/gear/..... will be out there, they are going to be left behind by a large margin. Is it what this game is about, ditching casuals?

But it's not ditching? It's a quest that is supposed to take a long time, there are other weapons (easy to obtain) that will provide the stats required for all dungeons/raids/trials. The Relic isn't something that should be gifted it should be a long arduous grind. I personally would like to see 1 in every 1000 players. . . so that it actually has some meaning and feels like it's a rare item.My definition of casual : (Ppl who have between 5-10h to play a week), not that they are bad but they don't have time to play a lot

again, just my opinion
I commend your effort with language!

I actually like that it's rare and meaning full, just lock it by content, not 6 months of grind, maybe a super hard content that can be done only by 1 out of 1000 players

But this would never work either, only for the simple fact that as soon as that 1 person beats it they capture it on video, upload it to youtube and now everyone knows how to do the fight. Sure, if it's hard enough then the difficulty might gate it from some people, but most people will memorize that video and the weapon is not as rare anymore.
IMO the only way this relic could have been made rare in this game is by time-gating it with a huge grind. I am indifferent towards it personally, as I enjoy grinds and I enjoy second coil. I guess I could say I'm actually happy the quest was designed this way because, if nothing else, it will stimulate the economy more. Even on Goblin (which isn't a large server by any means), every secondary stat materia on the MB history page was a full list from yesterday. Surely that will die down, but it will ensure that materia is always relevant to someone, as opposed to all the complaints about "Why do we have materia it's useless on end-game gear."
Well, now it's not!![]()

Just an observation, but the legendary weapons in FF games were never really meant for the casual players. They were content added for people who wanted to invest an enormous amount of time in obtaining them, but had the potential to be game changing if you did obtain them. They are also totally optional content and aren't required to clear any content.
They said in the most revent live letter they have this planned out far into the future, and consider that we are currently capped at level 50 of a potential 99. Novus is probably about the equivalent of stage 1 relic in XI. Expect these upgrades to require years of time investment when we get to 99 cap. If they are done right investing that time will provide a significant final reward. I believe this content was added with the understanding that few players will finish them all the way.
Legendary weapons with a difficult path to acquisition were also requested by a lot of people in 1.0. I was one of them, and at the time I made the request understanding that I might never finish one.
Mirelle I think you hit the nail on the head there. If I could like your comment 100 times I would.
Whilst they are difficult (pfffft not difficult - time consuming!) to obtain, compared to XI we still have it easy whilst still keeping the spirit of what these relic quests are intended to be.
I think most ppl jumping on those that do not like the relic quest do not realise that all this hardwork/grind is not really the issue if the end product is worth the grind. Relic is only as good as upgraded soldiery weapon but is much more work.
The so-called customisation means very little as there will be cookie cutter ones as secondary stats mean so little and certain stats are just better than others.
