I can enter a new dungeon within 2 hours of logging in.
When the Challenge Log was new, I could start work on that within 2 hours of logging in.
At launch, I could clear a few Fishing Log entries within 2 hours of logging in.
This? Well, people have been waiting 9 hours for cloudy weather so they can get the right view of the inside of the Leatherworkers Guild. And you're defending that. I'd be happy if within 2 hours of logging in I was making some progress with the log, but as it is I'm 0/80 because I have no interest in logging on and sitting in one location while I do something else, instead of actually playing the game and going around sightseeing.
By no means do I want to finish it instantly. That's why I've not even looked at any guides and have zero intent to. I just want to enjoy the content by figuring out the damn clues and seeing the sights. For fun. And for a penguin. I do not want to figure out the damn clues, go there, and then be told the clouds are in the wrong position. Not to invoke Godwin's law, but yeah... The Sightseeing Log effectively tells you to go somewhere, and then proceeds to tell you you're doing it wrong because the clouds are wrong... Again, have you people just never been sightseeing or something?
Jesus Christ, how often do I have to reiterate this point? Is arguing with a strawman more fun or something?
Please tell me you're trolling. No one can be this dense...
How exactly would the developers be damned if they made it so, when you arrive at the location, you get an Echo cutscene showing the vista as described? Or even if it just didn't require the weather/time (or if that was much more lax, since Rain/Fog could completely destroy views, but the differenced between cloudy/fair/clear is inane)? Would the hand full of people actually defending this as it stands be up in arms over being able to clear a log entry upon arriving instead of having to wait for weather/time or something? People asked for Sightseeing, not cloud chasing. Do people even chase clouds IRL? Storm chasing could actually be exciting, but going from location to location waiting for clouds to pass? Is that even a thing?
Maybe people would complain that it doesn't last long enough, but those people are idiots. There are 80 locations, which is plenty, and it's vanity content. Fledgling Apkallu is going to be (well, it already is) rarer than Turn 9 rewards for Christ sake... 2.3 will hit and more people will have the new Crystal Tower gear than have the damn bird... Rank 40 PvP; Easier than Sightseeing. etc. etc.
Oh, and for the record, I'm not mad with the Sightseeing Log. I'm disappointed with it. Very disappointed, it was something I was looking forward to. I'm mad at the people actually defending it as it is... It's like you're all taking crazy pills or something... Not one of you is even making a case for why it should be this way... So, why should we have to wait for cloudy weather inside the Leatherworking Guild to complete this log? Better have a good reason.

To reiterate a point I made earlier, that obviously no one read, I'd actually be fine with some of these requiring weather (Urth's Fount in Odin weather, please look forward to it).
This should be just like the Fishing Log; very easy to go around Eorzea populating the Log, but difficult to actually complete. Instead every entry in this damned log is like trying to catch a Titanic Sawfish. This is a backwards ass world we live in where completing the Fishing Log is easier than Sightseeing...

Heh, usually I think people complain too much but seriously this thing is horrible and has nothing to do with the fact we can't finish it right away. I'd be OK if they limited the amount of sights we can see per day and all but the time of day/weather combo is ridiculous. If they removed either one (preferably weather) the quest would be better.
I mean seriously, it needs to be cloudy while viewing the INSIDE of the Leatherworkers' guild. Cloudy. Inside. OK? Sure.
So I'll begin by saying have not been able to try this yet, I plan to when I get off work.
But, I have to say, why are you waiting at one spot for so long? While you are waiting the other spot my be right and you are missing it. You start with 20 to choose from when you start right? From what I understand the weather has a chance to change three times a day so if its not the right weather/time then go to another location and check there.
As for real life site seeing if I go to the Eiffel tower and it starts raining I'm not going to set there and wait for the time/weather to be right. I'm going to go see/do other things until the time/weather is right.
I was actually a little bit excited to try sightseeing...
Until I learned that the time+weather requirements are ridiculous with how the weather in this game persists for hours.
The chances of being at (any) vista at the correct time during the correct weather is ridiculous.
I understand this is supposed to be difficult, but this isn't "difficult" at all, it's a waste of time. That's not content, an achievement, or fun. That's not bragging rights. That's not even the proper concept of an "awe-inspiring vista"
I'm extremely disappointed with sightseeing and I hope in the future they make adjustments to either the weather system, or the time+weather requirements.
Notice how I'm not complaining about the platforming. That's literally the ONLY fun part of this content.
A more accurate description of what's going on with this is, you go to the National History Museum, but it's not cloudy outside so you're not allowed to see the exhibits.
Personally I didn't wait around in one stop for very long, because that is boring as hell. Instead I went off to other spots, but each of them was the same; "Come back later, the weather isn't right".
That simply isn't how sightseeing works. There is a case for Rain/Fog voiding the sightseeing (although some places can look amazing in such conditions), but a sight not counting because there is apparently a meaningful difference between Cloudy/Fair/Clear? It's laughable.
When people go sightseeing, it's an event for them. The weather isn't perfect? Too bad, you still get to see the sights though. Just because it's raining when you go up the Empire State Building doesn't mean you didn't go up the Empire State Building. What the game is doing is effectively closing off the sights until the weather is perfect, when at worst it should be doing the reverse (closing the sights off if the weather is terrible). This is a game though, if you log on and you want to go through your Sightseeing Log, you should be able to. You shouldn't be stopped at every single step and told to come back later because the sky is the wrong colour. It's a game, the system is called Sightseeing. If you want to go sightseeing you should be able to. Instead you're waiting for weather one way or another (just because you've gone somewhere else doesn't mean you're not waiting for it to be cloudy in the Leatherworkers Guild). I propose they change it to the Cloudwaiting Log if they intend to keep it this way, it's a more accurate description of what players have to do to clear anything in the log.
Seriously, the Leatherworking Guild is absolutely inexcusable. The worst thing is, it's probably the first place you'll go; it's the first log for a Gridania area, and you finish the quest in Gridania. Certainly the first one I went to do, and it's just cripplingly stupid.
In no sense is this a well implemented system. You are not sightseeing with this, you are waiting for 20 different weather/time patterns to go sightseeing. Like I said in the OP, they could have just given us a cutscene of the location with the right weather/time, they needn't even do that, just a postcard of the proper scene that might make some players go "I want to come back here when it's like that for a screenshot". I really do not get why people are against something like that, how would it be anything but an improvement to the system? It's less frustrating and more rewarding. What is so worthwhile about the current set up that its worth defending? Is it really just another case of "SE made it this way, and SE can do no wrong!"?
