How are you handling your Novus upgrade?

Some pretty good points about spell speed in here. I definitely notice if my SS dips a little low, even if it's only a few hundredths of a second. It feels sluggish.

So I think there's sold reasoning behind a PIE/SS setup. I'm already heavily vested in PIE/DET but if I were to do it again I would give SS some serious thought.

Novus in particular is an exception because the stats don't have weight considerations in relation to the total number of secondary points.

Consider 44 points spent:

Vs
31 det + 13 ss.

The det option has higher burst, higher hps, better hots + dots, and better mp efficiency, and misses out on ~0.03 reduction in cast time. Both options still allow 31 more points to be chosen.

Yes, but on the other side if the cast must be aborted because you have to move, you have exactly 0 benefit. I have a good number of occassions where I can get a cast out now which I coudn't do in past. That's far more valuable (especially solo healing first phase of T9) than infinitessimal higher heals.

Chain casting (dps) benefit from from Selene's buff

Wooohh... Why do you only confess about DPS benefit, but not Healing benefit ? Same for melee DPS, since you're only talking about ranged DPS (chain casting).

The description buff is clear though, this means it's benefiting ANY character having Spell Speed OR Skill Speed.

Just because YOU don't use SS on your heal doesn't mean that the other healers don't benefit from Selene's buff.

As SCH, 42 crit (because broke Crit IVs), det 24 (because cheap), acc 1 (made a mistake), Pie 8 (why not). Then 4 days later, High Allagan book dropped.

Currently waiting to even start investing materia into mine for 3 main reasons.

1. I already have my Yagrush, and while the stats fully upgraded for the relic would prove to be better, the amount of time & materia invested would personally not be worth it to me.

2. The added Mind and Spell Damage from the Turn 9 weapon is still superior to the amount of Determination you would gain from the relic, and for those of us raiding, it's only a matter of time, with no money spent (unless you count repair bills).

3. I worry for what they will do in the next installment of the Relic Quest. Will the stats reset entirely, and go back to whatever? Did all that materia grinding even do anything? I'm always skeptical of what square does for these quests because we have no idea what they plan to do, and judging from their sporadic change on this particular quest, I can only guess what the next quest will entail.

Although personally speaking I would go for Determination & Piety. Mostly because my current gear is factored around that very notion, and even if I added Crit, Spell Speed, or Accuracy to my relic, the amount I added would be so miniscule I wouldn't notice any difference.

Finished my Thyrus Novus last night. I went +29 Piety, +24 Determination and +22 Spell Speed.

Did any SCH put accuracy on their Novus? I'm not sure how much the 18(?) extra more would benefit. I definitely do not want to spend millions on grade IV materia...

Also if you put accuracy on it, does it override the already existing 8 (or 9 with Novus) points? I that case would it be more beneficial to put Piety or Spell Speed on it?
The accuracy cap for casters is 490 on T9 I believe, which I'm far away from of course but if it can reduce the misses, that would be great. ^.^

I personally don't really see any value in Acc for SCH, since (unless I am mistaken), our DoTs are guaranteed to hit. and that is what we are going to be DPSing with almost all the time.

The accuracy cap for turn 9 is 471 for us, not 490. It's 490 for summoners because they have to worry about pet misses, which aren't an issue for scholars. You can actually also put up to 35 more accuracy in there, with the accuracy being added on top of the base accuracy it already has. I have an omnilex novus with +44 crit and +40 accuracy this way, 9 of the accuracy is just from the base item, 31 came from the materia I melded.

Note that an accuracy melded novus by itself won't be enough to get you the accuracy cap. You'll need to support it with a combination of some crafted items melded with materia and food that gives accuracy. I personally don't need food right now because I have i90 crafted jewelry with accuracy to get me to that cap naturally.

Bio, Bio II and Shadow Flare don't miss, but Miasma, Aero, Energy Drain and Ruin can all miss. Miasma in particular I find valuable to get to a point where it can't miss because it's one of the stronger DoTs, and it also has some nice utility in the form of the slow it applies. Energy Drain never missing is also nice since it'll give you more MP to work with.

I'd also personally say that due to the nature of adding DPS as a SCH having the accuracy cap is more valuable than it appears on first sight, since there are plenty of situations where you only have a few GCDs to apply spells before you can't for a while because you need to heal. Being able to rely on Miasma and Aero hitting during these kinds of periods is pretty large gain in the amount of damage you add.
