Crit was (and still is, for many people) considered an inferior healing stat because the nature of crit is unpredictable. But equally good cases have been made as to why speed is bad (you can predict all significant incoming damage if you're good), piety is bad (you'll never go oom if you're good), and det is bad (the benefit is so small that it won't matter if you're good).



I don't like crit, but some people do. It depends on how you like to play.
For sch, max det > max crit > rest on pie

Welp, I was hoping to be satisfied with the Yagrush, but now I have to actually do this atma grinding business because the Thyrus Novus actually won't suck after I blow my social life on spirit bonding enough materia to max meld.

Is crit as a whm wrong? I want to critical my heals as much as possible its so strong lol will i have mp problems if ignore pie? because so far mp dont have major problems... already went 7 crit... i hope it wasnt mistake D:
I think that spell speed is kind of very minor additions i unequip everything and was naked and my casting time and recast time increase only in like 0.08 sec...
should i go spell speed? god i hate stating ( ' ^ '

i changed my mind, im thinking max det (31) then 50/50 on pie+crit (22/22) how about that?

Crit is bad for healing as a whm not just because it is unreliable, but also because it can cause more threat.
Lets hypothetically imagine your using medica or cure 3 to heal through some aoe damage. A few outcomes exist
If it takes you 1 cast to top people off , a crit would just add threat.
If it takes you 2 a crit might help, but only if its on the first cast. Otherwise, just more threat.
So in 2 out of 3 situations, you don't want to crit.
Then on those 1 in 3 situation you won't crit every time it comes up, so inevitably to be able to reliably heal through the fight you have to have the base healing to heal it, without crit.
WHM should never be dancing so close to the hate line that casts critting would cause trouble. But lucky crits can be very useful. The only situation where I could think I wouldn't want to crit would be if I was overhealing in the first place. The reason people say that crit is bad for a whm is that you will be curing them to full anyways so you should always be using a cure that will fully heal them. (ignoring rare cases where that just isn't possible) so if you do crit your going to be overhealing more.
While there are cases when crit is good like the case where you don't have a heal strong enough but since I believe the highest you can get is 25% crit (source I'm mostly maxed on crit (~465 crit) since the i100 gear has so much and I upgraded accessories last since I was debating switching to SCH) even in those cases where you need a strong heal than you have it is only going to give you a 1/4 chance of getting that.
So while crit can be useful you'd be better off with Det/Pie since those will always give you a return not just a 1/4 chance of a return.
