Let's list the weapon options we have first:
-High allagan: for coil2 goers that are already 'there'
-Tome weapon: for coil2 goers that are still trying to finish the last turn (unless certain jobs/players chose not to)
-Allagan weapon: you need to beat coil1 to be able to get this
-Leviathan weapon: for players that cant go to coil 2, inferior to tome weapon even after the very rare mirror enhance
-Novus weapon: massive time sink, players serious about this weapon will try to blaze through to the end while i think the majority will try to do this at a reasonable pace
Now, for people who hasnt beaten T5, the first 2 weapons are out of the question while the 3rd weapon would mean you have already beaten coil1 and would already be trying for the first 2 weapons I listed anyway. So that leaves leviathan and novus. Leviathan isnt the strongest but to even try for this, you would need to beat titan ex, a boss that is still a major wall to alot of players. They could be players that are ready to move up on the weapon ladder but are unable to because of reasons be it personal skill or group resources. Yes, they need to beat these fights regardless but their only other option is the super long grind. They could also be players that play really casually and would gear up simply with myth because their play time only permits them to get those tomes. Their weapon option would be the super long novus grind too! Alot of players are simply turned off by this, no doubt.
In a few months, the ilvls will increase again to something like...i130/i135 weapon level and some players will still be at i90. Remember when tanks went into dungeons with an i55gc/i60ifrit weapon and met i90 relic+1 weapons? Alright, yes, SE will add unidentified allagan tomes to CT in 2.3. People can grind tomes and wait 3 weeks to get an i100 weapon. Alright, SE said they will make the novus line easier once ilvl increase so people can catch up. Forget that for this to matter, these players would be starting from the very beginning of the quest line and they would still need time to catch up but that's not the problem here! They're all tomes! All they're doing is grinding for tomes! You're making the majority of your players do nothing but grind tomes for progression!
I've been lucky enough to be able to get into a group, allowing me to go into 2nd coil instead of just getting tomes to go past i90 but really, I feel like that this doesn't make sense or fair. I dont think player category isnt as simple as casual or hardcore; there's personal skill, availability of players to play with and their skill, players' time availability and lastly the desire to progress and each player will have their own mix of these variables. But why is it that the most accessible weapon is the most tedious and time consuming of them all? Winning T7 and T8 and then capping soldiery for 3 weeks feels waaay less bothersome than me going up the relic line! And I'm one of the last DPS to get the tome! Isn't this just punishment for the 'small time' players instead of fun?
I'm not too against the novus grind and I'm not directly asking for changes to this line of weapon but shouldnt there be even more options? Where's my up to date GC weapons and gears?
