Possibly found out some more information today about the nature of this bug.

I was crafting mythril ingots today on both my BSM and ARM, trying to get them both to 45 for the last set of leves. For ARM, the mythril ingot synth is at the top of the 36-40 list, and I noticed that when I was using some HQ mythril ores to craft them, I did not have to reselect them for each synth, whereas when I swapped to BSM and tried synthing them (for BSM it is a level 38 synth instead of 36, and therefore isn't at the top of the 36-40 list) I did have to reselect the HQ ores every time.

I haven't attempted to duplicate this with any other synths, but I'm willing to bet that if you attempt to synth any other first-listed item in the list for a given level range using HQ materials, it also will not reset your HQ material choices.

I think this bug has something to do with the adjustment they made to the crafting log (specifically, that new filter menu they added at the top where you can have the log show you only items of a certain category).

It's exatly as Fynlar says - unless it's the first item on the recipe list it will forget the HQ pre-selection and it's caused by the new recipe "filter" option which - IMO - is pretty much useless in it's current state as you need to know both which level range as well as "group" is it in (and indeed the actual class) to be abble to actually "find" it. Unless SE adds group for All recipies in one class (and preferably also in all classes) this is more or less pointless unforutnatelly.
