They fixed agro generating problems in 2.2.
only issue I have had with PLD is keeping agro is if the BLMs are triple flaring, and in that case, the mobs are dead before your HG > Sentinal is gone. PLD as designed isn't supposed to have the mob-group hate generating moves that a warrior has, but in return, it gets more natural defense and better single-target hate generating abilities.
PLD is the only think I take through roulette (unless it's got healer for "adventurer in need), except the low level roulette. and that's because if I hit a <40 dungeon on low level, I can't use shield oath.
Only suggestion I would make is to switch around so PLD gets shield oath at 30 instead of 40.
If I could add 1 ability to a paladin, it would be to have the paladin be able to trade a %age of its' MP for the same %age of a target's TP. would make PLD be able to boost healers' MP pool, and healers restore the PLD's tp pool.
