Which zone? How long? What time was it? Omg let's crafting a theory. But seriously, I'd like to know if zones outside current atma zones can drop them.

Central Thanalan is a good spot. I got 2 Alexandrites there. A lot of short FATEs that can be solo'd if there's no one playing there. Monsters that will die with 2 hits. If you don't mind the GC seals or the gil, Central Thanalan is the best spot (for me) for that.
