Later patch is for Novus... presumable the scroll can be replaced if you screw up before that...

not sure if someone replied, but no. if you mess up and dont like the stats you put on it, you are stuck with it till later update.

Don't think it will ever be more than +1 per meld. 75 Alexandrite really isn't that hard to obtain (just takes time). In 2.3 we'll have Hunts to help, So I'm pretty sure it will take 75 Alexandrite. Hence the reason why Yoshi decided to add more ways to obtain them.

The NPC that sells the scroll can also remove infusions from your unfinished scroll.
If, however, you have applied the fully infused scroll and converted your weapon into a Novus, you are stuck until later update.

As far as I can tell, you could even throw away your current scroll and buy a new one to start from scratch until you upgrade the weapon.

if i remember right, Duuude is doing pal gear, so it might be the shield.
