Relics weren't the best, usually they were 2nd best. Which Novus now should be 2nd best

I think you're misunderstanding my point, a retard who don't know how to play, can't do his job right and will be the worst tank/healer/dps in the game, there is no discussion on that as its a fact. But someone with ilv30 gear wont come close to someone in i100 gear no matter their player skill level. However that being said, two people geared exactly the same, one who has a brain and one who doesn't, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know who will do better.

They are unique like the other timeworn maps. You can have one in your inventory, one turned into a key item, and one on each retainer.
I don't think you can have a key item Alexandrite map and a key item gathered map at the same time, but I'm not positive.

You can only have one map deciphered at a time, be from a Timeworn map or Alexandrite map =/

The only problem I see with that idea, is if it follows the pattern where you use an "even" amount of materia grades across all melds, then it'll wind up being more Grade IVs overall, simply less Grade IVs per type. Also as I recall reading before, Det, if used as the 2nd secondary attribute will only go as high as 22 if you take the first secondary to 44 for a total of 66 since Det will always have a lower cap regardless. However what I'm not too sure on is what the max Det would be if its used as a 2nd or 3rd secondary attribute of 3 (or more) vs only the 2nd out of 2. 33 + 23 +19 does add up to 75, but the real question will be, how high can you take Det if there's going to be more than 2 secondary attributes? That said, using 2 secondary attributes looks at 16 Grade Is, 16 Grade IIs, and 17 Grade IIIs and 17 Grade IVs if they use close to an even amount of Materia Grades per tier.
If that's too confusing, for 1st secondary, in this case being Crit of 44, 11 Grade Is before next Grade is required, then its 11 IIs, then 11 IIIs then 11 IVs. Then for Determination as the 2nd secondary of 22, you can't divide it by 4 evenly as a whole number, so it'd wind up being 5 Is, 5 IIs, 6 IIIs and 6 IVs for a total of 16, 16, 17 and 17. However, using a 33, 23 and 19 secondaries like Skill/Spell Speed, Crit, Acc and Parry, it'll wind up being 8, 8, 8, 9 for the 33, then 5, 6, 6, 6 for the 23 and 4, 5, 5, 5 for the 19. Bringing it to a total of 17 Is, 19 IIs, 19 IIIs and 20 IVs. Granted this is just a random thought I had by using what I've read in this entire thread from the first page, so it may or may not actually be true.
But I believe using Determination on your relic will wind up needing less IVs (by like 1 or 2) overall vs going with Skill/Spell Speed, Crit, Acc and/or Parry simply due to them being able to cap higher than Determination. But since I'm not going to be working all that hard at doing the Novus quest, I'm not about to math it all out right away and see what'll be the best idea just yet, also I don't have all the information I'd need just yet to make that choice either.

Relics in FFXI were always top Base Weapon Damage, the initial addition of the Delve weapons however shit all over the Relic weapon damage. In effect, relics technically were the best, the weapon skill that came with the relics however weren't always that great or even decent a majority of the time. But then again, a weapon in XI was only as good as it's wielder, someone who didn't know how to use it properly made it look worthless and some people who knew how to play their jobs properly owned anyone with the best gear in the game who had no idea what they were doing, and quite honestly that's completely different from this game and how its set up.
You can wear your nostalgia-tinted glasses all you want, but to say that the same doesn't apply to this game is silly. Gear supplements player skill, yes, but it's evident if someone is terribad despite having good gear. Especially seeing as in this game the acquisition of most gear requires no player skill from the player, just time and effort. Soldiery gear, relics, it's all viable and not far removed from High Allagan, but requires you to spam easy stuff all over again.
Now, my hat is off to anyone who has the patience and will to grind their Novus.
Fair enough, didn't mean to come off as hostile anyway, just interpreted your point as I did.

It's all good, but as far as this Novus quest goes....screw it, I ain't guna work at it like I did Animus, I finally managed to make enough gil to be satisfied for when personal housing comes out, I'm not about to blow all of it already on a bunch materia melds that are guna fail. I don't have the luck of the gods like some people I know (the PLD in my old coil group who got all 12 atma in less 24 hours), took me 6 months to get a single meld to stick on my belt for DoH, screw this materia melding idea for Relics, its part of why I didn't do relics in 1.0 on top of the fact of actually losing the weapon, catalyst and the materia..... anyone who dealt with that crap... I must ask if you're experiencing any PTSD heh...
I just wish that they would come up with something other than the same grinds over and over and over and over again for all the "new content" they keep releasing. FATE grinding ain't fun, materia melding RNG aint fun, waiting for FATEs ain't fun, spamming the same 8 dungeons everyday in Duty Roulette ain't fun, doing the same 8 daily quests everyday ain't fun either. If there was more variety in all this then I wouldn't mind it quite as much. I am looking forward to the next set of CT though since my old coil group fell apart and I haven't had a chance to even touch SCoB yet since everyone wants experienced only... meh.

I tried earlier and it gave me the error message saying I already had a deciphered map. :/ Guess that means I need to get rid of this Peisteskin map soon then...
