You could outfit yourself in all crafted i90 armor for less.
Alright everyone! Let's all work several months and spend millions of gil for a weapon that will, by design, never be the best.
At least while you work towards coil you get "secondary" drops via i110 armor from Coil and interim weapon upgrades. Here you get bat wings and beastkin blood

Frankly, the amount of effort to obtain this weapon is higher than coil ^_^'

Any idea when we start needing rank 3/4 materia? The quest makes it seem like higher materia are needed to break specific thresholds. IE. you'd only need a rank 3 for every 10, 20, 30th alexandrite ... or something like that.

Central Thanalan is a good spot. I got 2 Alexandrites there. A lot of short FATEs that can be solo'd if there's no one playing there. Monsters that will die with 2 hits. If you don't mind the GC seals or the gil, Central Thanalan is the best spot (for me) for that.

Edit: 3 hours, 2 Alexandrites.
