Expansion & Flying and the Sightseeing Log

My concern is with the sightseeing log and the newest expansion that introduces flying.

    Potential Situation 1)

Flying is going to tremendously trivialize this new sightseeing system. Imagine when the expansion releases that you now have a flying mount. You can now easily reach these once-hard-to-reach places with ease since you can fly right to them!

    Potential Situation 2)

We get a very gimped version of flying which is essentially like the ahriman mount. Or only the FC Airship flies and acts exactly like the Teleportation system we have now. We select location from a list.

Are we getting a feature that is quickly going to be obsolete? Or a poorly designed expansion? =(

I don't remember reading about flying mounts anywhere in any of the live letters. And technically the ahriman mount isn't flying, it's just not shown touching the ground. The problem with flying mounts in this game is that, if you've seen the Noborist video, they'd open the maps up in unintended ways and Square knows that. We aren't going to be getting flying mounts anytime soon, if ever.

Q: Please tell us the theme for the expansion.
A: Maehiro: Well, naturally we're working on this now, and while I can’t go too deep into detail at this point in time, I can tell you that one of the themes revolves around a great conflict that spans across millennia. Beyond this, I can only ask you to stay tuned for additional details in the future.

Yoshida: I spoke a bit before about the expansion, and I said we were deciding on whether we should swim or fly. Well, we decided to go with flying so players can expect to look to the skies in the coming expansion.
While it may obvious that we need something to let us fly in-game (Chocobo, airship, ect) ... Swimming however does not require anything else beyond our characters. I think its safe to say we will be manually flying... but you never know.

I don't think that means what you think that means. I DO remember talk about company airships, which do indeed fly. There's no particulars mentioned beyond 'flying' so it's hard to say.

Anything less than players being able to fly themselves for an expansion will be a tremendous let-down. I dont want to be sitting on the deck of an airship thats essentially the leviathan map, only instead of an ocean its the sky. I'm going to set my sights a little higher than that considering games that are almost a decade old (some older) had manual flying.

I've played those games, too, and the flying mounts were locked to specific regions of the world for... the exact reasons I mentioned previous. The current zone maps we have are not designed with flying in mind. Heck, I get the feeling they weren't designed with jumping in mind, either.

This goes back to my original point. Even new zones that are flying-enabled will either trivilize the sightseeing log... Or they'll all end up in a cave that you cant fly in or something.
