    Why not allow it...?!

    why not allow our chocobo and the 2 retainers to help us do dungeons?
    Is this going to be implemented in the future?
    I mean I am just wondering why do I have to lvl up my chocobo and gear up our retainers!

    I mean in version 1.23 we had our companion which would helped us do some of the quests. " I miss my companion Lala Lina from vesion one. I dont even have a pic of her ; ;.
    so why not allow it in ARR?

    So I've seen this handled a few ways by companies that did allow it.

    The companion fights with you but doesn't take up a party slot. This ended up being bad as the companions had poor ai to keep the processor time down for the ai. Standard practice was to disable the companion when starting a dungeon because the poor ai would constantly screw up positioning and pulls. This doesn't even get into the issue of people using tank companions that would taunt aggro off the real tank so that the boss would turn and cleave the entire party.

    The companion fights with you and takes up a party slot. This meant less companions and they had a somewhat better ai. There were still cases of them going braindead and causing problems however. The big issue with this would be that in a trinity system a tank and healer could easily pull out dps companions and micromanage them and never need a dps to run a dungeon again. DPS queue time would skyrocket, and there would be massive balance issues because of that.

    This doesn't even get into the whole multiplayer game aspect, where part of the design of dungeons is that you should be doing them with other people. While having your companion be more useful would be great, I just don't see it happening, I think SE got this part right as it pertains to game design and balance.

    Similar thread with the one I made some time ago.

    While I do miss my 1.0 companion, I don't think making them as part of your team along with chocobo and retainers for dungeon raiding was ideal, especially since the game are still quite young.

    XI however, are quite old, more than a decade. And in order to attract more people, they recently released a system called Trust, which is basically the ability to summon heroes all around Vana'diel to fight by your side. This system however are quite a double-edged knife, with the other side making this game too soloist. If you have played XI recently, you would realize this. :3

    I agree with you in some, but you have seen some of the story mode quests where npcs helping you to do the fight and I think they are doing well!
    I mean lower lvl dungeons are even doable with 3 players espcially if yo uhave an ACS/ SUM who can play dps, healer and tank at the same time!
    I know SE are using those dungeuns to teach ew players how to play their roles and all, but I think SE can expand their teaching through retainers and chocobo right!

    I mean you are right! we are going to a solo mode here. I thought that was intended by SE espacilly through story mode and lower lvls at least. And I think this is the boring part of this game is having to do alot of things solo. Maybe adding retainers and chocobo will make it more fun if you are solo playing .
