Stop blaming others for your short comings

Ego is the problem.

You see posts saying that players should help out others who are struggling, but when you try, irregardless of how polite, respectful and tactful you come across in giving advice too many either outright ignore and continue the same or throw back abuse. Then players posting that others should help and wonder why many stopped bothering.

I asked a geared DRG why he never used Heavy thrust, which he didn't at all, not even once. So was kinda intrigued, he went all caps locks on me. So I gave up. "I JUST DONT!" was his reply.

So why bother giving advice when more often than not it is ignored or met with aggression?

Some times is takes being a douche bag, to make other douche bags realize they're causing problems.

Can't really say I agree with this, from my experience if you're being a douche bag to a douche bag then you just have 2 douche bags.

I agree that sometimes people are dicks in this game but sometimes they just want to genuinely learn on their own. Not everybody is as amped to go watch videos and read articles about how they should play and those people certainly don't want you or anybody else telling them how, that's their choice. If their being a douche bag that's also their choice and that's why we have a kick feature but just because somebody isn't listening to you tell them how to play the game doesn't necessarily make them a douchebag.

Personally I rush all the new content asap because of this same reason, sure I end up bored a month later but at least I got to experience things before everybody starts telling me how to do them and I get to learn from my own trial and error. On the other hand I try my best not to be rude as well and offer advice whenever I feel it's necessary regardless of whether somebody asks me so I'm a little hypocritical in that sense.

I only give advice if someone asks or if I ask them (if they're a fellow bard/class I'm familiar with) if they need some pointers. These people are more willing to listen if you wait until they ask/ask them before shoving it at them. I've yet to have one person react badly when I use this method. I also encourage them when I see them applying it. Some people may see this as coddling, but honestly, you never know what this person's gone through in their day. They could've spent their entire day getting bitched at by their boss at work or yelled at by other players.

I've given advice to some tanks that had major issues with enmity generation, not aware of the meters that are in game. Using flash as a taunt. Ive taken them through step by step and turned them from struggling to holding mobs with ease. Yet I was never asked. I could have waited and they could hav easily driven them to quitting through frustration.

If things are obviously not working, why would anyone refuse helpful advice to make things better for everyone, especialy themselves?

I guess I'm just a southern gentleman that doesn't want to impose myself upon someone. I don't like to come off as that know-it-all asshole that no one really likes. My method works for me. I never said you had to change yours.
