The bigger problem with the game at the moment is how the end game is shaping the community. Because the fights are tuned so that if one person fails, everyone does, it causes people to not want to bring along anyone new unless they are so far beyond the content that they can bypass the "no one may screw up" requirement. Combine this with the drive for efficiency in Duty Finder and the end game play space starts looking quite impenetrable.

I'm not saying the game is going to have players committing a mass exodus because of it, but the chances of retaining anyone new after they hit 50 is starting to look dismal. Ironic that trying to build EX content to please players is only making the community more fractured.

I mean, if shifting the fights away from being DPS focused to a tank/healer/controller trinity will help take the edge off of things I'm all for it. Right now it's turning into "get a static or get the heck out of my game!"

    it's sad but soo true...
the trouble of the end game it's this, the script and the "no one may screw up" setup.
they need to offer fight challenging less scripted (by a lot) and less hard on error, the error must be hard on the group, but if the group work together they must be able to overcome it! sadly in FF14 is not the case.

I was thinking about this earlier and really the game is balanced between dps, tank, and heal were as other MMOs tend to leave the fight on the shoulders of healers and tanks. If healer fails, no heals for party thus wipe. If tank fails the mob goes wild thus wipe. Now we have it were if dps fails bad things happen thus wipe. Is it really fair for two roles to bare the full responsibility of the fight like the old days?

I do agree that the elitist have shown their colors and made end game a very inaccessible for new players but on the other end of the spectrum I hardly ever see learning parties in PF.

The old system gave a place for people who couldn't devote the time to learn fights without having to hamper people who did, thus it allowed experienced hardcore vets to team up with mainstream and casual players to tackle hard content. The less experienced players would probably die, but they'd be able to learn from the fight without impacting the success of the players who are further along. This fosters a better community experience compared to forcing everyone to have to be responsible for the success of the entire group. One size does not fit all in an MMO.
