I can see some issues would be that:

a. No one would recognize their friends anymore. I wonder if that could be remedied by putting a field into the profile/search info that says "Formerly known as..." So anyone who searches you up will recognize your old name if they knew you before.
b. People would just change their names on the fly. Maybe if a limit on the number of name changes can be implemented (like 3, for example) and you can't ever revert back to your old name, meaning once you decide to give it up, it's gone forever.

Would these ideas bounce?

This is not an isssue, talkin from self experience, when you change your name you dont dissapear from your friend's F-list, also i think is common sence if you changing your name you will most likely advice your friends beforehand, and in addition to that at Lodestone you get a BIG RED TEXT message statin something like "This character has changed his name from ... to xxx-name was...." for a long while. I dont really remember the exact text but you get a message statin that at lodestone. also change your character's name doesnt change your name in this forums.

Have this in mind i see pointless to set a limit restriction on change names, when you change name is mostly for aestethical porpouses, when is about a person that want to change name just becuz want to hide away for wathever reason is really pointless.

I be changed my name 2 times so far since release of ARR. from "Bad Omen" to "Ocho Jarocho" then to "Lucy Flarion" when i changed servers about 1 month after the release of ARR, have to watch out when you change names from server swappin tho, someone can impersonate you then, for example right now there is someone else with my old name "Ocho Jarocho" on the server i was before, wich could cause troubles if a bad intentionally person uses your name.

Tons of big name mmorpgs like wow have it. Why can't this game? This feature needs to be added ASAP and I know lots of people who's waiting for this to be introduced.
