Subscritpion on console questions.

Ok, so I read it again and it says no valid service account to play FF14 please buy a digital download of the game or enter a product code. So is that just I need to have my account set up with a sub to play or what? Cause I don't want to go and buy the game card to get a sub put in if I wont even be able to play anyways.

And how far I get is this, I played the game on PS3 so all that is set up, I just upgraded to PS4, put in the code to download the game, I entered in the game and it had me go to the screen where it says I need a square enix account, so I say I already have one. i then put in my user name and pass and then it goes to the screen I was talking about.

On mogstation it says I have the standard PS4 account.
