What happened to this announced feature?

The ability to form some an alliance with other free companies is still being developed but is only in the early planning stages. Once there are more details we will be sure to share.

Forgive me for not getting excited about this feature, because of this very reason:

The way I see it, there's just no content in-game yet that requires an alliance of FCs..

You can say the same thing about FCs as well. There is almost no point to being in an FC unless you want almost useless buffs

Forgive me for not getting excited about this feature, because of this very reason:

Eh dunno, GW2 lets you join a max of 5 guilds simultaneously, though you can only "stand" with one of them and can only see the chat of the guild you're representing, but I still found it pretty useful to be part of different communities, yet there was no content that required having more than one guild.

A multi-FC system here would be a bit less useful due to linkshells, but I'd still welcome it.
